Stick with a new one. IIRC, the older "Fat" model was discontinued in 2009 or early 2010 so any model with backward compatibility is likely going to have a lot of miles on it already. I got the Slim model in 2009 and it is a good player and video streamer for Netflix, Amazon, etc. Plus the PS3 has some good exclusives like the Uncharted and God of War series.

bought the S590. Will upgrade to an Oppo or equivalent when I get a HDMI TV later this year and move this one to a bedroom.
