CX500 V2 for $29.99; get this deal or wait?
Hello all,
I have been purchasing parts for a new build, and the last piece I need is a power supply. Newegg has a halloween deal for the CX500 V2 going for $29.99. Should I get it or wait for something better to come along?
I would like to save as much money as possible; if I can get it for $25 later, then I rather wait..lol
Specs for my build:
i3-3225
Samsung 830 128GB SSD
8GB DDR3-1600 RAM
Asrock Pro3-M Mobo
No dedicated GPU
Thanks,
-DV

it's complete overkill but aside from a cx430 for $15 you're not going to find many cheaper power supplies that are decently built

Where can I get the CX430 for $15? Last I checked it was $35.
Thanks,

seemed like every couple months it goes on sale for less than $20. don't remember exactly the last time i saw it that low, though.
edit: per hot deals forum, march. might be on sale again for black friday.

$30 is a good price for a CX500, but as ElFenix noted, you don't need 500W for that rig. Hell, with no discrete GPU, you barely need 150W.
What I can't understand is letting a whole PC sit around to save $5. Time value of money has to enter the calculation at some point.

I see your point. But let me ask you a question: if all I need is ~200W, then why is everyone recommending that I get the CX430 or something similar. Isn't there a 200-300W PSU that's <$20 that will fit my build?
Also, I ordered all parts, and I definitely want to build it during thanksgiving break.
Thanks,
-DV

There actually isn't. Good quality low wattage units are few and far between. The only sub 400W units I'd recommend are Seasonic SS-350ET and Antec EA380D. But with rebate, the CX500 is a better deal.

at retail, at least.
if you're willing to ebay or order from dell spare parts, you can get high quality oem supplies with rather low wattage and gold efficiency. they're not cheap though.

OP, my response exactly. There is a certain minimum cost to build a reasonable quality unit, no matter the output, so the manufacturer's opt to rate them higher (more watts is better right??? ).
