32 GB memory installed but only 16 GB usable
I have the Asus p8z77-V deluxe MB, and recently upgraded to 32gb memory, using a DDR-3-1866 Kit from G.Skill. The memory installed fine, and the system boots and operates apparently normally, but the system screen in win 7 (x64) Control panel shows installed memory as 32.0 GB (16.0 GB usable).
Is there a solution for this issue.
Ben

I am assuming you have Windows 7 home premium (64bit) which has 16gb limit. To see all memory in the OS, you will need to upgrade to at least Professional version.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that is my problem - I was unaware of that limitation. So I guess my only choice is to upgrade to Win 8, (are win 7 upgrades still available?) but hadn't wanted to do that.

You should be able to do an AnyTime upgrade to Pro from the control panel.

If you are going to upgrade to Windows 8, it wont matter what version you get, as long as it is 64bit.
Non pro has 128gb limit while pro has 512gb limit, so either one would work in your case.

Yep. Imagine if XP Home was limited to 2GB of RAM, and you needed XP Pro to use all 4GB?
That's what MS did with Windows 7.
Edit: I didn't mean that MS implemented those literal limits in Win7. I meant in kind, they did something similar by limiting Home to 16GB, and Pro to 192GB.

I didn't either. I was planning to upgrade to 32GB eventually. I guess I'll stick with the 8GB I have now. 8-->16GB doesn't feel like a big enough upgrade.
Oh wait, I run Ultimate, so I can still do it.
