I don't agree. Wait staff doesn't really get paid directly by the restaurant, they get paid through tips. There is no incentive for a busy restaurant to cut on staff, none at all, no matter how cheap they are.

However, if a waiter is so busy they can't adequately serve my table, they deserve a reduced tip. Sorry, but that is how it works. If the reason they are so inept at handling my table is because the place is busy, they will make up for my small tip on the volume of other tips they make.

Taking your strategy of tipping fully regardless of how busy the place is and how slow the waiters are at serving you simply encourages them to reduce staff to the bare minimum- they still get full tips from each customer and can handle 5X as many customers, increasing the tip income immensely.

I saw a black family of 4 eating lunch at a steakhouse the other day. I remember reading on these forums how blacks were generally bad tippers. So as they left I watched to see what the tip was that was left. $3. They even thanked the waiter as they left.

One time, I made a baseless inflammatory point on the forums because I had a hidden agenda.

I ate out every meal for nearly a month. Not on my dime but during that time became more discerning in great-good-average-poor service. Even when it wasnt my money I wasn't afraid to leave a bad tip if it wasn't earned.

My experience working as a valet for 5 years says that stereotypes are (for the most part) true.

The problem arises when one fails at the old correlation/causation critical thinking exercise.

Tipping is mandatory for service. The amount of that tip is what's flexible.

15% for food service is standard for basic service. That 15% buys you both the typically slow service at a TGIF/etc type place and multiple-server 0-wait service at something like the Four Seasons/etc. You can't expect to not have to ask your server for refills and the like at any type of <$10 entree place especially on a popular night. They are having to cover far more tables than normal so you can enjoy your cheap meals.

For things like getting your bags hopped, $1-2 a bag is still standard. You don't get to get the service and then say "hey sorry bro, tipping is optional".

It's only recently that society's cheapskates have tried to turn the definition of a tip for services into an optional part. Tipping in general is optional...tipping when specific things like a service is referenced usually is not.
No. You couldn't be more wrong. My tip = My choice.

just sayin' don't skip or cheap out at a restaurant we are both in and brag about doing it within your table or outside.

Tip is required for food service in America. It's not optional except by bitches like yourself eating out and too cheap (or poor).

Same here, I delivered pizza on and off for about 3 years and it was 99.99% times true, even the drivers from the same group knew that and didn't want to go to those houses and neighborhoods.

I would welcome restaurants actually paying minimum wage and charging more for the food if required. I hate tipping. Nobody pays me extra to do the job I'm being paid to do already. At 95% of places the extent of service is bringing out a plate and filling my water and at half of places I get my own water. So, really I'm not getting any benefit from the servers so why should I pay them. Just another case of business owners trying to socialize losses/expenses so they can individually increase profits.

First you need to learn the definition of "required". You obviously don't have a clue. I am neither cheap nor poor. When the service is good I tip what I Feel is proper. When the service isn't well above the minimum, I don't leave a tip at all.

If you want to give your money away for shitty service that is your call, but it is not required by any means.

The tip is required. You are talking your piss-poor ethics over legality.

Trust me, someone gets OK service and leaves a penny on the table while they bitched all night...I will approach them.

You saying you don't tip unless it's well above the minimum, you should brown bag or cook at home. Ask me about this in person if you want and are in S. Florida.

What you mean to say is you would like for a tip to be required. It still isn't though, sorry for your loss.

"I will approach them" And do what? Beg for a tip. You must be a waitress.

"Ask me about this in person if you want and are in S. Florida"

What do you mean by this? A Threat?
