where can you can you purchase gopro hero 3 w/o tax in cali?
so besides best buy, rei, I can't find an online retailer that'll sell it. (not even the now tax-hungry amazon)

yeah technically we're all suppose to pay a "use tax" on everything, no matter what we buy
We're suppose to take the initiative and file a tax with the boe. But nobody really does this on small items. And it doesn't really flag their radars either, unless it's some huge purchase (car, mona lisa, space shuttle)

I looked, even though you can avoid sales tax, the cheapest merchant would still cost more than through Amazon direct + tax.
OP, check out B&H. Don't know what the going rate for these are, but they have one for $300.

Aren't there like 3 versions of go pro hero 3? IIRC the black version is the one that has the new hardware while the other ones are just rebadged go pro hero 2 or go pro hero hd.
