Help needed for my Projector 3D Project

Well, I started to build my media room (for my son) as a Christmas gift but I think I am missing some important information but I can not find what it might be. The long story short is that I have a projector TV (SLP ready), 3D Blu-Ray standalone player, (Active 3D Shutter glasses) and an xbox360, along with a wii. I have set it all up and everything looks great except the 3D. To help explain what I have, here is the list of the specific items I have.

The last part of the equation is that I have a 2TB external HD that I need to play my movies off of, including my 3D Blu-Ray's which are all side by side copies. When I try to play them now through the wii or the new blu-ray player, I get two images, side by side just as I do if I play them on my normal computer.
How do I hook up an external hard drive (USB 2.0) to a device that then sends the 3d movie via the HDMI cable to the projector so I can play all my 3d movies?
Also, when I play my original 3d blu-ray disk in the new player, it only shows the one image (as expected) but the 3d is not really working well because nothing seems 3d but the shutter in the glasses are working because it makes me a little quesy like motion sickness. (I may be too sensitive to watch 3d movies) I have the settings on the DVD player set correctly to 3d and the projector should be set right as well.

Am I missing a peice of equipment or is it my settings? I have been seeing a lot of talk about HTPC and using computers with special video cards, is that the way to play 3d blu rays if I want to run them off of a hard drive instead of the original disks? If I need equipment, what will I need? I prefer to spend a fairly small amount, nothing above a couple hundred of dollars maybe.

Oh, I forgot to mention, in case it matters... My screen is 100 inches wide and 75 inches tall. It is a screen fabric I bought off of ebay and then mounted to a wood frame. It is tight and looks great.

You need to tell the projector that the source is 3D content in a side-by-side setup. I looked up the manual for the projector, but I don't see any way to tell it that.

As for the frame Packing content, is your IR emitter set up correctly? You need it to be in line of sight of the glasses to force the lenses to switch.

Your Projector can not display 3D from any of your equipment without a converter of some sort as most 3D projectors can't do SBS 3D. The only way you could use your equipment is if you got something like a Optoma 3D XL to convert the image from SBS to something the projector recognizes but the adapter cost around $300 so its a hefty buy. The easiest thing to do for 3D is to use a HTPC with a 3D compatible video card which is AMD HD 5000 series and up which i recommend because if you go with nvidia you have to purchase the Nvida 3D Vision kit.

that is not true at all. i ran side by side 3d projector no problem on mine, however you do have to change the 3d options on the projector to be side-by-side. it also has top/bottom on mine but i've never seen a 3d content piece with that. until i make the change, i will see the side-by-side image like you would on a pc. and i've ran 3d mkv files this same way no problem.

as far as 3d not showing through the glasses, i know my glasses have 2 settings. 1 of them will make it so you can watch a 3d movie (that will be blurry without glasses) and it show with no 3d effects. the other mode will make it actually look 3d. make sure your glasses are set properly.

i have a panasonic 8000ae fwiw.

and i'm not sure about your projector as it says 3d ready and i'm not familiar with what that actually entails, but Durvelle27 may be right that you need an adapter.

You happen to have one of those projectors that support that. Most don't especially projectors under $1000

yea to be fair i didn't click on his projector link until after i made my post. i did not realize it was a $350 projector.

It's cool. But yes he's is a 3D ready projector so he needs either a HTPC or a 3D converter to view SBS 3D which is used by Xbox 360's, PS3's, and Blu-ray players.



@ OP if you have a pc just drop a cheap HD 6450 into it and use that for 3D

Not to ask a silly question but if the bluray 3d player doesnt process the 3d images, then I should just return it and play my 3d blurays from the hard drive right, using a htpc or a computer with an hdmi 3d video card?

No the Blu-ray player does process it and send the signal to what ever source is connected. The problem is the projector doesn't have a HDMI 1.4 port which is needed for the Blu-ray player to detect the TV/projector and send the 3D image signal to it and also the projector uses a different 3D signal than which the Blu-ray uses

So yes i advise you to return the Blu-ray player and use a HTPC with a Blu-ray Reader to watch your movies


Edit: no that doesn't solve the problem as its a media streamer not a HTPC. Do you have a PC with a PCIe slot and SATA port if so just get these two and your set.

Thanks to everyone for all of their help. I ended up ordering the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6450 and will hook up my second computer to the projector for the most flexibility there is. I will stream all tv/movies on the computer, leaving nothing else except the wii and xbox360. Netflix, hulu, ect can be played on the computer or the wii so that should cover me for everything. I will use the computer and the external hard drive to run all of the 3d movies. Again, thank you all for your time and help.

the Xbox 360 can also stream Hulu, Netflix, VuDu etc
