Larger purchases every three years or so, but probably around 1k/year.

I voted 500-1000, then realized over the last two years, I bitcoined and started watercooling. In 2011, it was closer to 10k on hardware (Yay for starting bitcoin mining in February 2011.. man those were good times) 2012, probably about 4k. 2013 none so far and I plan to keep it that way until Q4 2013.

Around $300 per year (a bit less) for me I'd guess. I pass on my older hardware to my wife's PC, so she's going to have a pair of HD4870's pretty soon and I'll be $150 into my 2013 budget.

All I know is that Intel is not "too expensive." *duck*

Whatever wife spends on <whatever> entitles us to spend a matching sum on hardware, doesn't it?

I'm assuming this poll is for household PC spending only. I dont spend that much but I get a lot for my money. I just bought a core 2 E8300 machine for $60. Slapped a $30 HD4670 in there and I got an LoL box for under $100. It needs an SSD but I cant find any more X25-M's 80GB for under $50.

If we start counting workplace expenditure, expect this to get silly quickly.

I was spending around 800 euros per year until 2005 when I quit smoking and the money I saved from it went to hardware. Now it's around 1600 per year.
Being a gamer my needs are more than covered with this kind of budget. Actually I already own three PCs that are pretty gaming capable, but I always have the upgrade worm eating me inside.
This year, since Intel will not bring anything serious on the cpu department, I will try to actually do something meaningful with my money, that is invest in 3D stereoscopic gaming. Probably a 3d vision solution with two 770s depending on their price. If Nvidia goes ridiculous on their price, I will get two 670s instead and call it a day.
