I like the levi 514s. Haven't tried 513 but those have a tapered leg, which is more modern.
For a designer jean, you might be able to wear N&F jeans, which are on sale right now at Nordstrom for their semi-annual sale.

$90 for selvedge jeans. Only thing about those is you're probably going to want to wear them for a while without washing during the break-in period. I've been wearing chinos more than jeans lately. JCP has some that around $30 a piece and they fit similar to 514s.

I agree with you. Personally I dont see the point of paying for "designer" denim, but if you want jeans for outdoor work or recreation, it makes sense. And for style I can't fault anyone for going with jeans. My choice is to go for moderately priced pants over jeans for casual wear as I see more value, but im not going to hate on the OP or anyone who can afford higher priced jeans. Its just not a priority for me.

Well I have been buying lots of clothes. Mostly Levi's for day to day/dog park use.
