40 is acceptable. With the difference I can get a pizza and 2 liter.

And this "expansion pack" is only 2/3 the cost of the original. Sounds about right.

Wow, the writing is simply atrocious (just like WoL) and the story seems like a deja vu of BW, except on a simpler scale. What happened to you blizzard?
"I moved heaven and earth to bring you back, Sarah!" "I never gave up on you Sarah. Don't you give up on us!" Really, Raynor?
"There's something dark in me" Wow, deep kerrigan
That said, still looks super fun to play.

I don't think Blizzard remembers what happened in Brood War.
They probably shredded those storyboard documents to come up with this tripe.

What happened? I don't remember the writing in SC1 being much better. The only difference in SCII is that the voice actors emote, where in SC1 everything was flat. It's no more or less hokey IMO.
I play Starcraft for solid gameplay and cheesy, epic space opera, and that's exactly what I'm getting.

What happened is Kerrigan withdrew to Char saying she needed to rest, and Raynor vowed to kill her.
Flash forward several years, Kerrigan is still on Char for as-of-yet unexplained reasons and Raynor's frustrated rage has given way to drunken depression. Sounds logical enough to me.

Theres a new button, asking me to watch live play of the masters tournament.
Seriously, they actually want me to watch other people playing video games.

Streaming gameplay on twitch.tv is actually wildly popular right now. There are TONS of people who tune in to watch stuff like LoL tournaments and SC2 intels' extreme masters...
It's not my thing, but it's pretty popular. Many games have twitch streaming built right in, as well.

I've never played Starcraft but I love RTS. Is there a way to enjoy this game without having 7 excel files open crunching build orders? Seems way too involved for me. At least that's the way I've always stereotyped it.

Single player vs. Very Easy AI. No need to be perfect each game.

Single player doesn't require it, even on Hard difficulty, and the online community is a crap shoot. Sometimes you'll end up playing some 12 year old who has no hope, sometimes it's some pimply teenager who plays it 24/7 and has every hotkey memorized and you die in 5 minutes, and sometimes it's someone in the middle.
I'd definitely recommend 1v1 for multiplayer though unless you're playing with friends. Too often I've gotten stuck on a team where one person was a complete idiot and fucked us over, although the few times I've had a good team have been epic.

SC2's ladder matchmaking system worked well for me. I never felt like I either didn't have a challenge or didn't have a chance.
1v1 is where the game shines, like you said.

The single player can be enjoyed by anyone. To really enjoy 1v1 multiplayer, I think you have to put in a bare minimum of effort like learn the most important hotkeys. But you don't need to be able to click on stuff super fast, and you don't have to memorize any sort of tight build orders. Just sticking to rules of thumb like "never stop producing workers", "keep building enough stuff that your resources do not pile up" etc. can make you an average player. Occasionally you just die out of the blue to some rush, but that's the exception and you can just shrug those off. After matchmaking has calibrated (after a few games) you'll get quite equal opponents.
