guess i worded it odd as well. The game corresponding with the promo serial number will be unplayable come october 2013. It has nothing to do when the key will be validly accepted to play.

Are you sure it's not when the activation period expires? As in if you don't use it by 10/13, it expires?

The game doesn't expire in October 2013. You have to activate by 10/22/13, at which point the game key can't be used. See bolded part in fine print below.

Bit on this but now I'm starting to have second thoughts. Is this going to be a worthwhile upgrade over a 6870 @ 1080p?

well the rest of your system has to be factored in to but best case scenario is around 50% better.

I jumped on this deal and got the card installed today. I have some positive things to report:
(1) on stock voltage, I was able to bench the entire Heaven loop at 1150/1350, up from the stock 1050/1250 (Newegg incorrectly reports 1050/1200, by the way). The card crashed quickly at 1175. I'll test unlocked voltage (if it's possible) down the line.
(2) the card is very cool and quiet. It's idling at 34C in an ambient of around 23C, with the fans at 20%. At max overclocked load (stock voltage), it got up to 72C and 51% fan. Still very quiet - much quieter than even my old GTX460.
(3) the free game codes are provided on a card slipped in the shipping box. Based on the description, this card was intended to be included with crossfire sets, but not surprisingly, those didn't sell too well (who buys two midrange cards at the same time, anyway?!?). So we reap the benefits - the codes for single 7800 cards ran out, we get the codes for dual 7800s! I can't comment on the issue being debated above about expiring codes, but my guess is that the game won't expire and that it was a misunderstanding.
3dMark11 with the latest beta drivers at 1150/1350 is P7690.
Edit: I was able to get the card to push 1175/1400 in 3dMark11, with a score of P7839 and a Graphics Score of 8212. That's 14.5% higher than the graphics score of 7174 that I get at 7870-default clocks of 1000/1200. That's fairly good scaling on the 17% overclock.
The bad news is that this card does not appear to have any voltage control, so you're stuck with whatever you get at stock voltage.

No, but I don't think any 7870 does. There is no Boost bios for the 7870.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I have been jumping around between the 7850, 7870 and 7950 cards trying to decide. I don't game much anymore but I should have access to some betas soon (via kickstarter.) I don't think the integrated graphics on my i5 3570k will cut it.
EDIT:
The sapphire 7870 flex dual x does/did have a dual bios.
