Power suply dead, need new one

The unit in my home tower has died. It was probably 5-7 years old. Antec HE 430W with modular plugs.

I do not do games, the video is around the best fan less I could find three years ago. The CPU is AMD 950 or 955 X2. Six or seven drives, mostly SATA, may be two 40-pinners. SATA DVD.

First question is if modular PSU cables are standard. That would save rewiring.

Second, I have been fine with 430W until it died. May be is time to up it a little,may be 500W just in case of a CPU upgrade.

Third, are fan less worth it? I have stayed away from it and did not know there were any.

Finally, what are the quality brands/models nowadays.

I will appreciate any suggestions

How can you stay away from somthing that you didnt think existed?

Antec, corsair, PCPnC, Seasonic (obviously), XFX, thermaltake?

Your system is fine with a 400w PSU, but you could get 500w if you planned on getting a 6 core and overclocking it to the absolute max.

If you dont do gaming especially, chances are you have a lower end video card. Most systems dont go anywhere near 430 watts of power as it is, even who do game. You should be fine with any decent PSU. I always stick with Seasonic, Antec, Corsair myself. I dont buy other crap.

I am under a horrendous cold/flue that I must have caught on a trip last week, so my brain is not performing. I meant I have stayed away from PSU tech because did not have a need.

I may get another in the 400W range. Seems like every body likes Seasonic.

The 360G has +3.3V 12A 39.6 W, +5V 16A 80W, +12V 30A 360W
HE 430 has +3.3V 22A 72.6W, +5V 16A 80W, +12V V1,V2,V3, 16A ea, 384W

As long as your +3.3 needs are reasonable (should be, high +3.3v was dated in 2005) this would work fine.

CPUs have become LESS power-hungry, not more, and even a guzzler like the FX-8150(the original Bulldozer, not the 8350) can run at with a quality 400 watt power supply at stock, and less hungry processors on even less.

This is Tom's Hardware's overclocking results with the processor overclocked to 3.86 Ghz using an aftermarket cooler, and its total system power consumption.

I am leaning towards the Seasonic SSR-450RM. It is reasonably priced and has plenty of SATA power points. I'll order it tomorrow.
