the same argument erupts for virtually every Edgar title fight. He lands dozens of patty-cake punches and the partisans ask why he didn't earn more 10-9 rounds. He's got a great heart and fighting spirit though.

Agreed.
The July, 2012 UFC judging criteria change is THE reason Aldo unquestionably won the fight.

I don't think anyone, no matter how much of a fan you are of one guy or the other, could claim that Edgar produced more effective damage than Aldo did. That was plain as day.
Before the rule change, I think Edgar may have taken rounds 3, 4, & 5, with his greater number of ineffective strikes. After the rule change, it wasn't even close.

He has a bad gas tank, is typically way overconfident and has been KO'ed like a dozen times. And without the roids he'll be that much more behind.
