Just a heads up to those who might care about such things...
It appears(according to the developers speaking on their own forum) that Atari pushed BG:EE into Steam without Beamdog even knowing. Beamdog doesn't even have the logistics set up to keep the updates synced between steam and their own update manager.(possibly interfering with multiplayer mode). And Also Steam is supposedly taking more than 50% of the profits. The lead designer is currently negotiating with Atari to allow already purchased keys to be unlockable on Steam. Currently people are asking for refunds on their purchase so that they can then buy it from Steam where the devs are losing money.
TL;DR : Developer possibly getting screwed because of steam.

Good to know. Buy the game where the devs will get the most benefit, people. If you want to see them actually continue this experiment with BG2 and Torment, don't screw them over.

Some really strange things going on with this game...
On the flip side, Beamdog is being blamed for stealing community mods like widescreen, adding fluff content to the base game, and introducing just as many bugs as they said they fixed. In effect just repackaging available community fixes and adding a bit of content, and charging $20 for nearly the same game that is on GOG for $5.
Strange they had no clue what Atari was doing... bad management not reading fine print, or a total lack of common sense? Since before release I can't count the number of 'wish it was on Steam' posts, and they (BD) had to have seen them... thought their publisher wouldn't notice?
Confused.

Everyone who followed the game already knew this was the case going in.

Yeah, Also Steam's cut is around 30% off, the devs may be saying 50% but that might be with Atari's cut added in as well.
They might not make as much per sale on Steam but they will get a hell of a lot more. A lot of people don't even want to touch that Beamdog site and frankly I don't blame them.
All that said, I have no interest in buying this. Using the community widescreen fix and other things really makes this version worth much imo, especially when they are trying to charge $20 for it.

Atari just filed for bankruptcy again, so Atari probably didn't know what Atari was doing.

I purchased BG:EE from Beamdog just before xmas, finished the game already ,however I feel you are not missing much if you download the free mods including widescreen mod for the original retail game.
I think the game is worth about $10 for BG:EE , $19.19 is a bit expensive especially when you can do a lot of free modding yourself.
I'm currently replaying Icewind Dale with Heart of Winter expansion, Trials of the Luremaster plus free mods(ie official patches and fixpack mod ,tweak pack mod ,ws mod) ,my own free enhanced edition .
