There are objective based game modes, you can even pick servers that play only the objective style modes. Granted there isn't really that much strategy involved, but you don't have to play deathmatch if you don't want.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Tried the free weekend, and just couldn't really get into it. Mostly subtle things, the interface could use some tweaking to make information more readily visible. As it is I feel like I have to take my eyes off the combat to see pertinent information.

Other than that, it just got bland after a little while. It just lacks atmosphere IMO. I could never really immerse myself like I could in Mount & Blade. Encountering serious server lag everywhere I went wasn't fun either.

That's not to say it's bad, I had some fun, just found it lacking overall. I might snag it if it goes on sale for $2 or something.

Game is really bland. At the end of the day its just running at each other mostly.

Mount and Blade has so much more variety/weapons/horses/styles/cool things to do.

Yeah, I felt pretty much the same. I actually came on top of the leaderboard a few times and I only played a dozen or so games this weekend and that's it....swing your weapon like a madman and you'll a lot of times get two kills in one swing, haha. Definitely doesn't seem substantive/polished enough to warrant the $25 full price...even at 50% off I'll have to pass.

And it was indeed a BIG patch.
13 new maps, 5 new weapons, new game modes including Duel & CTF, etc. Was a nice surprise this afternoon when I fired it up.
I played a few rounds of Duel so far - reminded me of my early QW Rocket Arena days.

Update: Unfortunately the 1st Duel server I was on had Archers disabled... not true for all servers. Archers don't belong in duels.

Maybe you should try out the different classes, weapons, and game types?

While it is true that swinging your weapon wildly can occasionally get you one, two, or three kills at once, I've found most players have already adapted to this play style and can counter it pretty easily. Used to be I could just swing the big hammer left and right, but not so much anymore. I like that, in general, I have to play smart and strategically to come out on top. Plenty of patience and skill required at times along with guts and craziness.

I'd actually disagree about the lack of polish. For a brutal, medieval melee (and occasionally ranged) game, I find the gameplay to be very tight and well done. I think it has a really good feel to it. It isn't perfect, sure, but given the size of the dev team and the type of game itself, I think it's pretty solid. Plus it's cool that they're still rolling out nice updates.

I find Chivalry is best played in small chunks. I might play for an hour or so every few days with friends. It keeps it interesting, and I find I still like to come back to it every so often.

Just bought this game a few days ago...

Its just a fun game. I compare this game to APB:Reloaded. I used to bust out laughing playing APB:Reloaded because of the ridiculous physics, it was one game i could actually enjoy my character getting destroyed. This game is the same way. It can be pretty funny lopping peoples arms off, or running into a situation you deep down know you shouldn't have. It's a blast, especially if you have some friends to have a good chuckle with.

Initially i thought that it wasn't very good, and that i was not very good at playing it. Honestly, if i hadn't gone back to it the second time i am not sure i would have been hooked, but i did, and I find it oddly addicting. It's a difficult game to get the hang of right off the bat, but if you keep at it you'll figure out some tactics that work, and some that don't. You cannot really be overly aggressive in certain situations or you'll get your head lopped off very easily. Also, try different classes, knights may seem like a weenie tank class, but when people are diving at you waving two handed swords over their heads, a nice shield deflection can make a man feel very comfortable....i will admit, i really love playing the vanguard class, and it irks me when an archer deflects my flying two handed attacks with their one handed dagger...

It is very fun with friends, but unfortunately the game is not great about putting you into groups with them. Luckily steam helps out a lot with that. Aside from that, the game is a tad buggy, and there are times when trouble can arise within the game modes themselves. However, if you have no trouble leaving the occasional game and rejoining another server, the problems are not too bad.

It's really satisfying when you get on a roll and take down three or four people in a row. Certain people are much better than me, but i think my best game so far was around 21-5. It's not very often that i get games like that, though. It's pretty fun, and if you like hack and slash games its worth a try.

Also. I would definitely tell you to use 3rd person mode instead of first person when using melee characters, it helps a lot.

Check it out if 25 dollars doesn't break the bank. It's pretty fun...or at least check out some videos of it on youtube and see if it interests you. What you see is what you get!

Edit: For content. Also...the community is pretty good, though you will get the occasional headache of a person, it's generally pretty good spirited.

I just got kicked/banned from a server for "hacking." Xigmatek's 64 person server. Except I had only joined like 5 minutes into a game, was doing poorly at 4-9. I then am randomly accused of hacking, of course everyone votes yes, and then bam. IP banned.

So dumb.
