Geforce 8800 GT with 27-inch monitor at 2560x1440; anyone actually tried it?

My old 24" 1920x1200 monitor (16:10) went on the fritz, so now I'm shopping for a new one, but have an itch to move up to on of the higher rez 27-inch monitors in 2560x1440.

I am not a gamer, so am more interested in having multiple work files open, both spreadsheet and Photoshop, etc. I am using the Nvidia 8800 GT 512mb, and would like to continue using it if possible. It has dual-link DVI-D outputs, and according to the Nvidia spec sheet, the 8800 GT can technically handle resolutions up to 2560x1600.

Has anyone ever actually used the 8800 GT hooked up to a 27-inch monitor at 2560x1440? Since I'm not using it for games, but rather work, I am wondering if I can take Nvidia's specs as accurate and assume that this should work? Curious though for first-hand experiences with the 8800 GT at 2560x1440. Thanks.

I used a 2560x1600 monitor with a 7950GX2. Of course it will work fine

I think it should work, but it' really impressive to see that you managed to have a 8800GT still alive as this series was flawed (they 'die' prematurely) ; just browse '8800 issues' on google (same thing for 8600 series, some 9800 which were just a rebrand of 8800, and mobile 8400/8600....)

Yes it will work, these resolutions were supported already in FX series AGP cards.

erm, wut? Sure, they had a few issues, but a whole ton of them were sold, so I'd expect that. I still have an 8800 as well, as do several of my friends for backup machines...
