It doesn't look like it's a 3D TV, so 1.3a.

which monitor?
My old 23 inch viewsonic monitor died and my friend who bought a samsung 120hz monitor to use as his main(its amazing btw) is offering me one of his old monitors for free. He said I can have his 24 inch Dell 2407wfp or his Acer H233H, he doesn't care which I pick because they are just a 2ndary monitor for him since he got his new one. I linked to the specs of both monitors below, can you tell me which is better for gaming purposes (fps games mainly) and general usage? I think the Dell is better but wanted to be sure since I'm pretty clueless on monitors. I have a q6600 @ 3.4ghz with a gtx 460.
Dell 2407 wfp:

Acer H233H:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/MO...H233Hsp2.shtml
The acer one is newer, but he said he used the dell as his main monitor before he went 120hz so that one may be better? Which would you use?
thanks in advance for any input on this

Are Plasmas ok to use as a monitor nowadays?
I am really researching the P55ST30, I plan to use it as my primary display device. I want to just sit on my recliner, ~14 foot away from tv, and browse internet, watch media files, etc. I do a lot of reading online, so text display is crucial.
Will a plasma handle this? Or just get a LED LCD?

What is the best bang/buck 30" monitor available these days?
Wondering if somebody could provide insights on this question.

You forgot something...
END USERS
>> If a graphics guy uses the latest cutting-edge top-of-the-line 30" 99999999x99999999 IPS with PERFECT 9999999999999999999999:1 contrast, etc, it isn't going to matter one lick unless all the end-users viewing his graphics he created also have better-than-average-at-minimum displays. Otherwise it will just look like anything else.

Good bump...However, if the OP would be willing to update this with the latest monitors and such, I would be willing to re-sticky it for everyone. I think this thread has a great wealth of information and should be easy to find.

I know this thread is played out, but does anyone have a recommendation for a resource to find information on monitors?
Cnet is useless (their recommended best priced monitor is $300+(?)), PCMag seems to not look at certain brands (eg, Viewsonic).
I've sort of been brand loyal to Viewsonic for a long time... usually by accident. I need to get an inexpensive monitor for my mother (replacing an old 17" CRT).
It looks like everything starts around 24" now, but some of the ViewSonic VX in that size have some poor comments on Amazon. (I'm unclear what the current model is seeing vx50, vx53, vx60, and vx70 models).
I'm not even sure where to start anymore. Suggestions?

I use following sites:
http://lcdtech.no-ip.info/en/
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news.htm
And dedicated forum for displays on HardForum, they usually have threads for every interesting display on the market.

Thanks.
Btw, turns out PCMag is reviewing Viewsonics... they just weren't being ranked high enough to show up where I was looking. Sigh.
FYI, I think I'm down to the VX2370SMH (Viewsonic) and the BenQ GW2450. Never bought BenQ before but the reviews are pretty good.

While we're bumping up this great but old thread, I was wondering if 8 bit color depth is important anymore.
Based on this thread, back in 2007 I purchased an NEC 20WMGX2 and could not be happier. I still have it and it still works great (except when I went from XP to WIN 7 I lost the internal speaker function). One day I'm going to have to consider an upgrade. When I go into stores, some of them pretending to be high level, tech saavy computer stores, nobody has any idea what I'm talking about when I ask which monitors have 8 bit color depth.

High end still are 8bit or 10... Budget IPS are 6 with some additions to make up the difference
I have 20WMGX2 since 2005 and I also got a U2410 two years ago. I believe still 8bit
The budget IPS monitors look like a good deal but I will probably stick with high end . Still use my NEC. I think for most users the color doesn't matter. Especially if you aren't doing video or photo work. Gaming it doesn't matter much
