Texas is and remains a fairly sold red state, which is why I think this thread is somewhat futile. Texas may become more blue in the two year or four year short term, but the R's will have to lay major eggs, giving the D's that needed boost and that has not happened yet.

I think Texas will turn blue faster than people think. A lot of the new people in Texas came there because there were jobs. But those jobs have little or not health care and benefits. By the time a 25 years old is there 10 -15 years they are starting to deal with health problems. Their brand new communities are starting to have to perform maintenence. They are trying to figure out how to pay for college for their kids. They start thinking about retirement. All things that get people turning blue.

Democrats won 3 out 4 of the new congressional seats. Seems like they are improving their numbers sent to congress from Texas.

Yep, and Austin, San Antonio, The Valley, El Paso, Dallas County and central Houston went for Obama.

And they failed to get rid of Lloyd Doggett for the umpteenth time.

Statewide offices are another story. Even in the past, the Democrats who won were extremely conservative in relation to the rest of the country. But they mostly were don't rock the boat types. Not so the present crew.

I think it'll be 8 years before Texas becomes a swing state in the vein of Pennsylvania and probably a good 16-20 years until a Democrats wins it during a Pres election. Of course, if a latino were actually on the ballot, then it's a different matter but I'm talking Pres races with no latinos on either ticket.
