No Republican has a leg to stand on in this thread. Neither you nor your party is fiscally responsible.

You supported GWB through two endless occupations that were not paid for and a completely unnecessary tax cut. All of these are major drivers of our deficit right now.

Unfinanced taxcuts is a cute term. I also love the excuses by that "dynamic effects" will recoup the current loses. Thats not just in the US

You actually believe this?

The govt "needs" more tax revenue like a leaking bucket "needs" more water.

From the looks of things, looks like we ALL are going to be paying more taxes on Jan. 1st. I really don't see a bill getting debated and passed in the Senate tomorrow and then passing the House in time for Obama to sign. Senate has adjourned for the evening with McConJob having dinner with Biden to try to solve this (WTF? Does Biden pull enough weight to do anything here)?!?!

Hang on to your parachutes boys and girls....the fiscal cliff (I vote those two words as the most hated words of 2012 - tired of hearing them) is getting damned close.

Yes, it looks like we all are paying more, unless something is passed later that's retroactive. For me and the wife, it looks like a 20% tax increase. What's yours?

tax estimator

Stupid ass politicians.

My rate would go from 12% to 20% according to this app.

the sad thing is, that its not really about politics at all. Its about securing your seat at the next election. Republicans for example wworry that if they vote yes to something that voters will pick even more conservative people next time. The same applies for the other party, tho in opposite direction. So nobody there cares about the country, they only care about self interest.

Newspapers here directly says the US got a dysfunctional government that even at gunpoint cant agree on anything. Its bad for the US in terms of foreign view. Its bad for businesses that needs stable politics, nomatter if its higher taxes or not. But they cant plan arcording to chaos and people are being fired due to that. Orders cancelled or not given. And a country instead of growth is suddenly directed towards recession. Just because...300-400 people or how many there is cant agree.

How hilarious it is that the many of the very rich have been having things go their way for nigh on decades, gleefully corrupting our politicians at will for corporate welfare and generous tax loopholes, hoarding the nation's wealth instead of being that laughable self-described title they anointed themselves with: "job creators". All this as they send millions of jobs to the third world for higher profit and tons of cash offshore to hide away from the nation they enormously profit from.

And now they refuse to cough up a measly few percentage points of tax give-backs that they corrupted their way into getting when they themselves were largely responsible for crashing the economy that requires a raise in taxes to help the recovery now in progress.

Better to hoard wealth than improve the quality of living for us all by actually being the "job creators" they fancy themselves as? Something's gotta give, and it finally looks like the pendulum is starting to swing the other way. Some crumbs do look like they're actually going to "trickle down" for a change.

Dem and Repub politicians are all alike? Yeah, right. If Romney had won, the middle class and the poor would end up paying more and more and more to line the pockets of the very rich. Instead, with Obama pushing hard for it, it looks like the middle class and the poor will probably get to keep some $$$ that many of the very rich think should rightfully belong to them.

Tweaker, the rich have ALWAYS found ways around paying lots of taxes...and when it was forced on them they overthrew their ruler and replaced him with someone who reversed it.

Pretending that something which has been done for thousands of years will magically change is silly. Also, pretending the republicans would have placed a tax increase on the middle class is silly. Please stop pretending these things.

Saying that Obama has won on this is pretty screwed up thinking.
Never has he wanted the average workers taxes to go up.
The fiscal cliff pulls everyone over the edge, not just a few.
Those living off investment income and those living paycheck to paycheck all hit the rocks below.
I personally believe we can fix this if willing to wait until 2014.
Thats two years of pain, but two years of Clinton era type of growth.
Then in 2014, we can remove enough of the house tea party traitors and return to a sane America once again.
It is clear that many of the house republicans have no desire to allow government to function, let alone compromise. They hate government. All government.
If Obama were to agree to the Paul Ryan plan, give republicans everything they ask for, house republicans currently sitting at those seats would still refuse to cooperate.
Why?
Because cooperating would mean government was functioning to some degree.
THAT would be un acceptable for them.
Not one of those tea party traitors should be allowed near government in the first place. Their only goal was to sabotage the will of the people.
Because government is the will of the people.
2014? Kick them to the curb. Every single one of them. And we know who that are....

Sportage - the Tea Party people were voted into office by the will of the people. Everyone know what they were getting when they voted them it, it was not a hidden agenda like many in the two big parties have.

Saying they are sabotaging the will of the people is like saying if the Rent is too Damn High guy won the election and lowered the rent, he would be sabotaging the will of the people.

That said, reducing the amount of free money people have to spend on consumer goods is not the way to improve the economy - which depends on people spending money on consumer goods.
