How do you guys like it? I like 2010 better, I think the theme is terrible and I really can't believe that they did not incorporate a Windows 7, Vista, XP theme for it... it looks terrible.

i like it better than 2010. are you using windows 8? it is meant more for people using windows 8 as it integrates with it

I love it so far. Running win8. Haven't tried it on win7.

I DO NOT LIKE EXCEL 2013!! Whatever idiot thought up adding the "cool" graphic stuff should be fired..... And his bosses too. It's Excel, not a toy and it should never be thought of needing to be cool. Its hands down the most useful piece of software ever created. Don't screw it up.

I'm on Windows 7. I don't like 8 right now and don't plan on moving to it. I'll wait for 9.

2013 is fine, I can't really say I like it any better or worse than 2010.

I'm still using 2007 (didn't see the point to upgrade to 2010), and will probably go to 2013 eventually.

From the short time I tried it, 2013 seemed to handle IMAP better, and it has EAS for my Hotmail account instead of Hotmail Connector... The color theme was awful at first, but not so bad when you change it to one of the darker ones.

I think IMAP is terrible in Outlook with Gmail, Mail for Mac was way better with Gmail. I converted to Office 365 since I've grown to love Exchange 2010 (I'm an Exchange admin). Don't mind paying for it. Office 365 works great with it obviously. Also like ActiveSync on the iPhone over the Gmail connection.

...at least they are still supporting it.

I'll probably try to find a copy of Outlook 2010 to upgrade to...

I wasn't real happy with Excel 2010 so I guess I won't bother with E'13. I don't need fancy graphics to clutter up everything. They are just bloating this stuff up...

Have they fixed the windowing in Excel or is it still a stupid MDI application?

Not sure, what is it? I use it daily on multiple machines and truly loath Microsoft for making it pretty and neat....

The fact that all of the docs are stuck within a parent window instead of being their own separate ones like Word. For some reason MS thinks you would never want to have two Excel windows open at the same time and it's maddening when you need to compare spreadsheets with multiple monitors.

That drove me insane with Excel 2010, I haven't used Excel 2013 much yet but I will give it a try tomorrow at work to see if it has finally been fixed.

Not sure if I follow. I use a 3 monitor setup with 3 open books all the time. 2010 worked the same.

That's strange, on my machine w/W7 64bit (32bit Excel) my databases open up in their own instances or windows if you will, and it pisses me off to no end. Always opens up back to the default settings in the new instances of it and screws up my settings that I like for that day. Never had that problem w/2007.

Multiple windows works fine with Excel 2013.

Ummm, guys, just because you're unable to figure out the basic functionality that has existed for ages, doesn't mean it's Excel's fault. Some research might help.

Just hold down the SHIFT key when opening a file to force Excel to open the file in a new instance. Not sure if this used to work in XP, but even then there was a trick: open your first file in Excel. Then navigate to All Programs > MS Office > Excel and force open a new instance. Then open your second file from the new instance's File menu.

Oh, and the reason why they have kept the functionality intact is because there is wide userbase out there which's already used to this behavior. There are other use cases though that still warrant the presence of this feature: imagine copying/pasting across sheets when you have multiple instances of Excel running... the experience is a lot more error prone than manually navigating to the respective sheet using your mouse or another keyboard shortcut (crazies like me are used to ALT+TAB'ing).

I like that Outlook 2013 supports ActiveSync now.
A lot of people are talking about IMAP and gmail, that's a mistake, you should use ActiveSync which supports modern features like contacts, calendar sync. IMAP was great for its time but is obsolete.

A worry about Office 2013 is that ClearType is not implemented throughout, so that much of the UI has badly rendered fonts. This is in the preview, and I don't know if things have changed for the final release.

Edit: as soon as I write this Google disables ActiveSync (http://winsupersite.com/mobile-devic...ls-eas-support), so now gmail is not a good choice if you are using non-google applications to access it.

That's a stupid workaround and there's absolutely no reason for Excel to still be defaulting to MDI. Doing it that way is more error prone because it goes against how virtually every other app on Windows works. One should be able to use ALT+TAB to switch between documents instead of having to use CTRL+TAB within Excel.

There is a registry key you can download that will automatically open all excel files in a new instance.

I occasionally get a phantom on my taskbar, which annoys me, but it is better than a single ill-behaved spreadsheet taking down all my work for the day.
