I don't see anywhere in the post or on the NewEgg item description about those DIMMs being based on 35nm chips.

They are low profile Micron-based DIMMs.

Did I miss something?

Nope, sorry, you're right. But they're 1.35v, which means there's still plenty of headroom just like the Samsungs. But 4 extra GB, which I guess is the trunk in your analogy?

The stock timings on the OP ram are loose (something like 11-11-11-28), but they are the best overclocking RAM in existence right now. Many people, myself included, have gotten them stable at 1866 9-9-9-24 1T, and that's with 4 sticks (2 kits) and comfortably below 1.5v (I stopped at 1.42v). With 2 sticks (1 kit), they're easily stable at 2133 cas9 (and some have done it at cas 8). Here's my experience with its: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2266467

I have 8 GB of 1.65V Kingston HyperX. Is it even possible to add another 8GB of these Samsung magic ram ? If yes, what are the cons ?

I wouldn't go over 1.5v with the Samsung RAM.

Sell your 1.65v ram and replace it all with this stuff.

Yep, this stuff is THAT GOOD. My Windows Experience Index for my ram is maxxed out at 7.9 (yes, that is the highest score you can get).

You'll also get less heat in your case.

As I said above, the 35nm process used to make these chips makes a big difference.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this but can anyone provide some insight as to how to OC these chips? I'm running 100x43 on an i2500k. Thanks!

Don't be lazy Anyway you could set these to an XMP profile that matches their default settings, but the timings are really loose at the default clock. I don't have a machine here with your BIOS, so I can't send you screenshots, but you should be able to manually set the clock speed under the DRAM Frequency setting (I'd start at 1866), and then go into the DRAM Timing Control and change the first four values to 9 (DRAM tCL), 9 (DRAM tRCD), 9 (DRAM tRP), and 28 (DRAM tRAS). Leave everything else on Auto or whatever the defaults are. You could try changing the command rate to 1 (instead of the default 2), but let's get you stable without that first. I'd set the DRAM Voltage at 1.4v, and the VCCIO (or VTT Voltage) at 1.0v. Leave all other RAM-related voltages on "Auto." Try that and run Prime95 for a while and let us know.

Feel free to PM if you don't want to derail this thread with questions/comments. Or post a new thread in Memory and Storage and me (or someone else if I'm slow) will get you set up quick.

Don't forget about tWCL (tWL in some BIOSes).

Is this on sale anywhere at the moment? Amazon and NewEgg seem to have jacked the prices up a bit.

It looks like the deals on this ram have gone away just like the Samsung 830 SSD's. Most likely Samsung wanted to blow out the inventory....Maybe shifting to 8gb sticks?
