I have an i5 2400 running at 3.7ghz, should I upgrade to lga1150 or skip?

I mostly do gaming. I'd say that I do more serious stuff but I do it rarely and I don't care if processor X does it 25% faster than processor Y.

Far as I have heard thrown around Haswell will be ~10% faster clock-for-clock then Ivy Bridge and Ivy is ~5% faster then Sandy Bridge. So you'd be looking at an upgrade of ~10-15% clock-for-clock. I think it would be a waste of money...

I'm still rocking an Asus Maximus II Formula with 4 gigs of ram, an Intel E8500 core 2 duo paired with a couple sata drives in raid 1 and a 6870 vid card.

This system does everything I need it to do and plays all the games with great fps.

So unless you are doing some work that is seriously cpu intensive, I'd say stick with what you have.

If its multi core/streaming encoding and other needs like that, then the more cpu and cores you throw at it, the better, but if its video gaming...the cpu isn't as important versus the vid card..

my 2 cents.

but yeah..if you have the itch to get new tech...by all means!

i5-2400 is great CPU, there is nothing you could replace it with and get any visible performance gain.

Not really... I mean I do but not constantly. I'm not using this thing as a workstation, I use it for a lot of things and I don't give a crap if It converts a movie 15% slower than the newest CPU, so I guess I won't upgrade to haswell, maybe not even to the gen after haswell. You should still get an SSD.
