Default Dell U2412M 24" IPS Monitor 1920x1200 $260 @ Newegg or Amazon

OK, this thread is for everyone who complains about wanting a higher resolution every time I post a deal on the Dell U2312HM. This is the best price I've ever seen on the 1920x1200 U2412M, and no rebates.

Dell UltraSharp U2412M Black 24" 8ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD IPS Panel Monitor @ NewEgg

Enter the promo code on the page for $50 off, bringing the price down to $260.

Yup, hot, got one for my dad today, just in time for his birthday. Moving him up from a Dell 1703FP. Big change!

I wish I could see one in person, concerned about the AG coating.

Our local BB and Fry's don't have this particular model on display

I have 2 of them and love them.

I had a U2711 2560x1440 before and found it way to small for my blind eyes. 1920x1200 is my resolution.

The AG coating was way worse on the U2711 compared to the U212Ms too, by the way.

Damnit... I want to buy this so bad... but I shouldn't since I'm most likely putting an offer in on a house here in the next few days.

$260 is a potential tipping point for buying a house? Are you buying a doll house?

Heh, I was thinking the same thing. But admittedly, buying a house will drain your accounts even after the mortgage, because you'll find yourself at Home Depot or Lowe's every damn day for weeks.

No it won't drain my account at all. If it did I wouldn't be looking at a house.

However I have basically gotten rid of all my furniture over the past few years and downsized to basically my bedroom worth of stuff (roommate owns the couch, table, etc in current place). So I don't have any furniture really and would need to buy that. So $260 for a monitor that I want, but don't really need, or $260 towards furniture and initial house startup costs (i.e. lawnmower, trash cans, etc)?

You guys are right that $260 doesn't matter for the house itself though.

That was figuratively speaking. You just repeated the exact point I was making.

Fixed. It's at least months, anyway. But this is a really good deal. What's more important, a couch, or this monitor? You could always sit on the floor...

Finally pulled the trigger with prices this low. I hope the transition from TN is worth it. I do like my Samsung monitors.

This is an extremely tempting deal . . .

If I didn't already have a ASUS VW266H (26.6" @ 1920x1200) I'd be all over this.

The only real difference is TN vs IPS (they're both 8ms) and this one's a little bit smaller.

EDIT:

Wait a minute there, this doesn't have an HDMI connection (mine does)?

This seems mighty odd in this day and age.

It has no speakers, so no real need (DVI is sufficient if no audio requirement is there).

The only real difference is TN vs. IPS... which is huge...

As far as HDMI goes, aren't several versions of HDMI limited to 1080p at 60 Hz? This monitor is higher res than 1080p.

HDMI on almost any monitor can do 1920x1200.

There is no speakers on this monitor, so no real need of HDMI. (unless your trying to use a laptop - I actually use one of my U2412m's with my Dell E4310 monitor over VGA all the time and it works great)

They've really neutered their ultrasharps haven't they. I have a U2408 and I use the card reader and HDMI all the time. It's great for my PS3. The component inputs have been useful a few times too.

They just split the line into two branches. The entry level which is what this is (removing USB hub, card reader, ports, etc so it's just a good IPS with 3 ports), and the higher end ones which are the U2410 as the last gen or U2413 as current (http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2413/pd). Either of those are the replacement for you 2408 or my 2407. The 2412M is not the replacement for them, but is a new product line essentially.

Tempting. I have an older Samsung 22" 1920x1080 display - it's been fine though, so I'm probably not ready to drop $250 on a new monitor yet...
