Well, how many different drives use the same Marvell controller? How many brands have multiple drives with this same controller, but different firmwares that vary the performance.
Some brands, as they've discovered how to squeeze more out of the same Marvell controller, market it as a new drive (Corsair). Crucial revs the firmware so everyone who has one can benefit.
There have been some bugfixes along with this, sure... bugs are like Pokemon, you never catch them all... just when you think you have, they come out with some new ones. The magnitude and severity of the bugs with the M4 have been pretty mild compared to most other players, I recall only one that was higher severity, and as I remember, it was fixed pretty quick.
As for the UEFI thing, it's definitely not all UEFI systems. Mine was fine. You make it sound like this is going to affect 90% of enthusiasts... I don't think it will.
