Smart thing to do would be take the full settlement and buy a good used vehicle cash, and then you won't have any payments for 10 years. But if you insist on having a payment, you could put that money aside in a savings and buy another car with it in 5-6 years, rinse and repeat.

Hiya,
Might be late, but thought I'd provide some info on the Focus. I have a '12 sedan Focus with a manual transmission.
Essentially, the pros and cons for the Focus seem to go something like this:
Pros:
- Very good looks
- Very good handling
- Quality interior
- Quality overall
- Nicely equipped
- Manual transmission
Cons:
- Automatic transmission: Focus forums are filled with auto transmission users who complain strongly about it. The issue with it seem to range from occasional shuddering to full out lack of power at start and faulty gear changes. People have turned cars in because of it. I've never driven one myself, though, so I cannot say just how bad it actually is. However, when it does work as intended, it's apparently pretty good.
- Room in the back isn't fantastic. I probably wouldn't buy the car with kids older than ~10 yrs old.
- MyFordTouch is apparently REALLY unreliable, and definitely not for everybody. Personally I wouldn't like the lack of physical feedback (it's a touch screen). Updates have been made on the system, so apparently it's not as bad as it used to be, but people still have issues with it from time to time (e.g. system freeze that requires a restart).
- Resale value is honestly not great. Those people that had issues with the auto and turned their cars in took a pretty huge hit. Of course, that's not an issue with you land good car that you keep for a long time. It's also a fleet vehicle, which further dilutes the market and lowers the resale price.
So essentially it's a terrific car if you avoid automatic transmission and Ford's gimmicky systems! A manual SE version w/o MFT is a really great car; I've had no issues with mine personally, and it's really awesome to drive!

I've been following the car on truedelta, and it seems after some software tuning on the transmission, the issues fell dramatically in the past few months, and those that got the software update generally liked it.

Thanks. USAA didn't tell me what caused it (and I don't know if they know). I've asked. Hyundai hasn't even started their investigation so nothing from them either.
