I'm not bashing Apple and giving MS a free pass. In fact, take it to mean I rarely use Windows anymore now that I've completed my switch over to OS X and didn't know Windows can't read/write OS X formatted drives natively. I would't know this because I'm dual booting Windows on my Mac and now understand that Apple installed drivers so Windows can read/write to my OS X partition.
Maybe there's good technical reason, or maybe it's just marketing for either OS not being able to write to drives formatted by the other. But since Windows own 80%+ of the market share while Apple's growth is faster than Windows', it's best for users in general if they could both read/write to each other's format.
