I just looked at this after seeing the deal on another board. Too many 1 & 2 star reviews. Glad yours worked well, but that seems to be uncommon. I'll stick with only 4 & 5 star reviewed hd for my data...

I've got 8 of them and don't have any issues. I think the main issue with Newegg and these drives is inconsistent shipping practices.

I saw this deal too, but I'm kind of stuck figuring how this compares to other drives. Seems that for speed the Seagate 7200.14's are faster and cheaper ($120-ish per another thread here), and for power savings / low heat just go w/ the WD green's that are $130-ish not on sale, less of course when they are.

The Reds are superior to the Greens in performance, temperature, and power consumption:

I will never buy another WD Green drive.

they make good raid drives.
they are cooler then the wd greens and the seagates.
they have a 3 year warranty.
I have 4 of them in raid0 but 2 different raid0 each is 6tb and
I have a raid0 hgst that is 2x 4tb =8tb so my pegasus r6 has 20tb .
the western digital reds run quiet and cool . I no longer own any wd greens. I am selling my last seagate 7200 2tb as they are a lot hotter. 10f more then the reds or the big hgst 4tb's.
I like the 4tb hdds the hgst pro's 7200rpm are really fast 300MB/s in raid0 copies of large eyetv videos, but they scare me if they go belly up. So I use the reds to back them up.

If you're raiding them, you want a Red.

And if you have an issue with a product, you are way more likely to write a review than if you had an average experience with a product.
