It's exactly what you are doing.

Maybe they can trade their land for it. We'll take all the oil and natural gas, they can keep their people.

They would also control the business end of the Mississippi river. Ever hear the old saying that you don't put all your eggs in one basket? As far as energy is concerned that is basically what the US has done between Texas and Louisiana. Hell, the HUB of the entire nations pipeline system is located in those two states, so if by some magical and mystical the US could shit a new supply of go go juice I seriously doubt they could effectively transport it throughout the nation.

Refinery capacity is ultimately replaceable, any advantage would be quite temporary since the US has ample access to crude. If we wanted to be real dicks the US could blow up the Old River Control Structure and let things proceed naturally.

The part I like best is how they are the "real Americans" and the "real Patriots"
They love America so much they want to leave it

Don't lie, your favorite part is when people that oppose you politically die.

I noticed that there are a lot of states on Whitehouse.gov asking for secession. I even saw my home state of Nebraska on there with around 5,500 signatures.

Texas is probably "average" in terms of "guns per capita" in the US.
There are various sources, none of which appear to be really truly 100% accurate, as "guns per capita" simply doesn't seem to be tracked.
Based on a poll of over 200K people in the country, about 35% of households in TX had 1 or more guns.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...ownership.html
In the below states, over 50% of households had 1 ore more guns in the home.
Alaska
Alabama
Arkansas
Idaho
Mississippi
Montana
North Dakota
South Dakota
West Virginia
Wyoming

Oddly enough you can blame a large amount of Texans for not agreeing with you.
Last I checked a bit over 40% voted for Obama in Texas and already some of the cities are asking to secede from Texas to be part of the USA.

My prediction. All the red states secede and form a new country. I guess the Confederate States of America is a bit too obvious so they call it Allied Straight States of Holy Owned Legitimate Empire aka ASSHOLE.
The new president of ASSHOLE is Dick Cheney(R) where there is no other party but Republican. As the ASSHOLE nation cuts taxes to record lows and watches the debt levels rise to record highs, when asked about the record debt levels President Cheney replies "deficits don't matter". Yes in the ASSHOLE nation debt will never be discussed again because you know... when republicans are in control debt doesn't matter.

From tea party to seceder?
Sounds like the Bachmann/Palin wackos are still in full swing.
I like the move to Canada idea better, for them.
I want to see their face when they move in and realize guns are not the end all in Canada, as well as having national healthcare and same sex marriage.
I want to see that expression on their mugs come that glorious day.
Talk about sore losers....
Sure gives credence to supporting better funded education.
Especially in those red states down south.
And they should remember... If they sucede, we have all the nukes on our side.
Na na na nana na...

I have a coworker who told me today that NY wants to leave the union. "Uh, no, NY doesn't. The people signing the petition don't represent NY. The people signing that petition represent 'the idiots of NY'. It's not very credible."
The reply: "yes it is, it was on the news."
*sigh*

The south would be a barren wasteland without the support from the north.
Lincolns Folly was thinking we were better off with those hillbillies.
Let them secede.
