Another fantastic option is to opt for a pair of Audioengine A2 speakers ($200) and an Audioquest Angel cable ($1200) if you aren't for "loud" listening. It's an exclusive expensive setup but still falls right under your price range. Add an 8" or 10" sub and will give you tight, controlled, hard, detailed, authentic bass from the system. The A2's will make your sub sound tight while the sub will make your A2's sound big. Best sound I ever received, even beating the Focal CMS40 with sub in nearfield listening, no kidding.
.
LOL at the audiophool that spends 6X more on a cable then speakers.

Bet he couldn't tell a difference in a double blind test between his $1200 cables and a coat hanger.

Really? your using that cables on the A2 instead of the Focal's? and even then i would go to ratio like this, 1000$ speakers = 100$ cables at most, 2000$ = 200$ at most, so its like 10:1 ratio.

Also its almost impossible to me to imagine that A2 which was destroyed by the Adam A3x, to lose from the CMS 40 which beats the A3x...

If you take your asshole tube and wrap it around any speaker wire, it will be a bigger upgrade than speakers 10x the cost.

I do tell the difference, which is why I didn't return it for a refund. I kept using it. It's 6 months old now.

Yes really. In overall the Focal beats the A2 due to higher power output and wide stereo imaging in the mids. Some songs (actually a lot) still sound better with the A2 speakers and $1200 Angel mini cable... especially in the nearfield listening. If you were to compare strictly for far-field listening, then the Focal wins. A2 speakers with $5 mini cable will outperform the A5 speakers in nearfield listening. There is the detail and mid / upper bass advantage to the A2's. They just sound better. With the $1200 mini cable it increases detail both in and outside of the soundstage. More spatial sense of depth. The mid / upper bass is incredible. And of course you get airy detail in the highs. Focal CMS line beats the Adam A series due to the better and wider mid range. There is more detail in the mid range too. Adam shines at higher frequencies however.

Seriously speaking, if one is not a loud listener and don't mind nearfield listening, there is not many out there that can beat the A2 speakers with pure 100% solid silver w/ PSS cable technology. As a matter of fact I just returned both my Focal CMS40 speakers and Benchmark DAC-1 for a refund because they are not any better than my A2 setup. The mini cable cannot be used on the Focal because it does not have the 3.5mm mini input, only the single-ended RCA and XLR.

And if you were such a cable expert than you would find a way to convert it to a proper plug.

No, if you use converter plugs you will degrade signal quality, defeating the purpose of using the solid silver cable.

Otherwise I would have done it a long time ago....

But yea, I did make mistake getting the 3.5mm mini-to-mini. Should have gotten the RCA type as then I can use it for higher end speakers that have RCA inputs.

PT Barnum: "There's a sucker born every minute".

Yes, yes there is. Maybe more often in the Audiophool community
