I too have played the game several times and don't see a lot of 'New' content enough to make it worth the purchase.

As far as portability, I am not sure if that is such a great thing. For me, when playing BG, it was always marathon sessions lasting hours and with a great deal of focus on the game itself. Particularly in BG2 when some of the battles get REALLY tactical. I just don't see that translating well into a portable system. Of course that could just be me.

But I am still keeping an eye on it anyway.

I've tried BG 2 multiplayer with my friend some years, but the game really wasn't suitable for it. For example, when a conversation begins, it pauses the game for each player even though they are not participating in the conversation, so they see the text and they have to wait until the active player finishes all he wanted to ask/say. + the pace of the game is slow (which is fine in singleplayer) and the battles + walking are the only moments when both (or more players) can actually play the game at the same time.

When compared to Neverwinter Nights, which was worse in overall, but better in multiplayer, NWN showed other players' dialogues only as bubbles above their heads and heads of the NPC + in the log, while not pausing the game or taking control away from player until the action is finished. You don't have to play both games in MP more than two or three hours to realize that BG series was never really meant for MP, while NWN was build specifically for this kind of experience.

I think the problem is that you expected it to be action only and to not be impacted by the actual STORY of BG in your multi-player experience. This I find to be a problem with your expectations, not with the game itself. BG is largely about the story as well as the adventure.

I wonder why is it, that MORE PC games are not comping to the iPad. There are plenty more games out there that could work well on a tablet. Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale are just a few... But what about games like Ultima Underworld, Jungle Strike and C&C?

Heroes of Might and Magic anyone? And if no one wants to make an actual port, why is it that 3rd party modders don't bother with this stuff? If console emulation is possible, surely it is also possible to emulate older PC games? And I am not talking about pac-man.

I'd kind of bet that the whole BG:EE thing is a test to see if there is a viable market there. If it sells well, I am sure that companies will start considering it. I mean, it's a no brainer. Find games from 15-20 years ago that gamers are still talking about and then port them.

As for Modders, unless there is a real incentive (payout) people would be doing it for the love of it. And I can't see that getting a huge publicity campaign around it. Pretty much, if it is happening, you have to either know someone who knows about it, or happily stumble upon it. And there wouldn't be any money for the simple reason that, in order for someone to make money off of it, they would have to purchase the rights up front.

I've finished BG series several times (even with a single character) and BG II is my most favourite video game ever, so that is not the case, I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. BG is not a multiplayer material. It's like reading a storybased book with a lot of small details and references. Imagine the book with a small paperback format and two people with different reading background with different speed of reading and attention to detail trying to read the same small book at the same time. It's not the ideal material. I love the story of BG series, but it's simply build for a single player experience, there is no denial in that.

Singleplayer and multiplayer is and must be completely different experiences in a genre like RPG, because both forms require different settings, speed and interaction. The problem with BG in my previous post is, that while one player plays, the other one has to passively wait until the first player is finished. That would be fine in a strategic turn-based game like Heroes of Might and Magic series, but not in a story and dialogue driven game like BG.
