Default How much should I expect to pay for ingrown toenail removal surgery?

My toe-nail had calmed down after my first doctor's visit. Then I was antagonizing a girl in class and she kicked my foot, nailing my poor toenail.

Now it's purple. I'm going to need to get it removed, as it hurts pretty badly. What should I expect to pay for that? I want to make sure I don't get ripped off when I go to the doctor.

I went to the doctor once to get my ingrown toenail removed. Had the ingrown toenail for about 6-8 months before one of my classmates jumped on it in football and just about killed me. All I had to do was go to my local clinic and he did it right there. He numbed it with novocaine and just took a scissors and cut the ingrown part of the toenail off. Felt pretty weird for a while but I haven't had an ingrown toenail since (been about 5 years now).

Think it took him 15-20 minutes total.

Not sure on an exact price, just thought I'd let you know what he'd probably do.

I've tried it. I've probably removed 20 of my own ingrown toenails. This one is a spur that has curled around my toe. I just can't get a grip on it to remove it.

Have you tried cutting it with a scissors? That's all they're going to do at the clinic. Granted, they have novocaine, but think of all the $$ you'll be saving

Well, I tried those little cutilcle scissors. The thing is that the toe is really small and my hands aren't steady at all.

They said it would be around $300 or $350.

when the toenail grows into the surrounding skin on the sides of the nail. Gets infected, and purple and hurts like a B!tch when something hits it

A toenail that is growing into the flesh. Quite painful & frequently gets infected.

If you've had 20 ingrown toenails you seriously need to consider getting surgery to kill the nailbed on the extreme left & right of your toes. There's no reason to deal with that.

It's no more expensive than the cost of your specialist copay.

Which for me is $15. The next time my right toe gets ingrown like that I'm going in. My left toe hasn't given me a problem since the podiatrist fixed it back in '96.

I have no insurance.

I'm getting it in January, but I don't want to wait that long. Walking hurts.

I know how you feel man. I "didn't have time" to go see the doc when I had the worst ingrown nail ever for me. I suffered for a week and my toe was on the verge of serious infection. Finally my wife forced me to go, my PCP sent me over to the podiatrist the same day.

And I also know how it feels to have no insurance. My wife had to have a full hysterectomy while we were uninsured. She had it done back in Apr. 2001, we just got done paying off the last of those bills earlier this year. Get your insurance ASAP, your next medical problem might not be as inocuous as an ingrown nail.

It got infected about a month ago. It's been a painful month.

it costs me 15 bucks, yay specialist copay! woohoooo.
I fixed it myself the first time, but noting quite like letting my podiatrist do it, he does a way better job..

costs nothing here.

If i was in the US i would either consume a fifth of whisky, or steal some procaine from a dentistor pharmacy.

I'm sure the amount of taxes you pay says differently.

The novacaine hurts more than the removal w/o -- kind of defeats the purpose.

Go for the "do-it-yourself" surgery.
