Default If I know Im gonna fail a class, should I just not go to the final.

I know I'm going to fail my first year stats class ( I kno, my fault, too much partyin, poor study/homework management) . Got a B on the first test, F's on the next 3, and now a final on thursday. Should I just fvck going to to the final, and take the class next semester with a diff. prof. and actually study/know the material. I know im basically gonna fail the final if I do take it... Thanks for any input.

the final exam is weighted heavily (right?) and there might be a curve...why not brush up and take a shot?

I don't think I've ever not shown up at a final even if I know I'm not going to pass. I have gone and barely written anything down, however, but I at least got some credit.

Agreed.

I had some teachers throw out 1 test grade then average them. Or better the final counted double. Once for a final and if higher then replaced the lowwest test grade.

So study and take it.

i was miserably failing my stats class in uni, i went to chat with the prof to beg for a pass, he said "the chips will fall where they may" - but ended up giving me a pass.

he wasn't allowed to flat out say, "i'll see what i can do", etc... but in the end he did help.

it's always worth a shot imho. in my case, the class was an elective that he talked me into staying in even when i wanted to drop, so maybe he felt a little bad about that and passed me.

Back when I took calculus 1, I got a B on the first test. Got an F on the next two. I went to the final just for the hell of it, and answered 1 and 0 for everything, cause hell, its calculus.

Because of the curve, I not only passed, but I got a C, which was good enough for major credit. I was shocked.

Just go. It doesnt matter how little you know. What matters, is how little everyone else knows.

Clearly you need to learn how to apply yourself, so why not start now? Give it your best shot.

A group of friends and I went to our professor once and asked if we could pass. We all failed quite a few tests. He said, we would have to make A's on the final and we knew that would be impossible. I decided not to go to the final but everyone else did. One of my friends made a C on the final but the professor passed him because he came. I of course failed.

My stupid fault. GO TO THE FINAL!

Yeah, even if you do fail after getting an A, you will better know what the test will be like even if it does change in the next Stats class. But not going to a final exam if you know you've paid for it or someone else is, in a sense, sets you up for failure and actually increases the chances of dropping out of college. Once you stop trying, is how much longer you start weeping and crying at the end.

This actually reminds me of my Calc 3 final.....I was cocky and I never studied the material and never did homework. Even though the class was easy, I managed to fail all the tests. I went to my porfessor and asked what I should do. He just said "Well, if you ace the final, which i doubt anyone will, let alone you, i'll give you an A". What a cocky teacher. Man, that was one hard final though. I just sat there staring at a wall. He gave me a D+ also...but I took the class again in the summer and got an A (I actually did the homeowrk).

try to drop the class if you're going to fail. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to drop. My favorite was work needed me for additional hours. Of course, towards the end of my college career that one was played out, my record had that too many times. They made me agree to take fewer units so that I could keep up on my school work even if my work needed me to work more.

The only advantage to skipping the final is if you can work it out with your professor to get an incomplete, do some make-up work over winter, and to take the final next term.

but regardless, all this needs to be done BEFORE the final happens.

Or you could just skip the final and fail the class and get used to a pattern of failing throughout your college career, barely graduate, and get a sorry, low(er) wage job compared to all your college buddies and wonder what you're doing in such a dead-end position.

Talk to your counselor about the possibilities of dropping the course, if that won't work, talk to your professor, see if you can work anything out with him, and if not, study your ass off, and do your best on the final.

Approaching the prof to talk about things often enough is a positive step in the right direction. That effort can go a long way. When it comes time to dish out grade, they remember the kids that they had some personal time with.

Schedule an appointment with your prof, buckle down and study (liquor and females will ALWAYS be there waiting), and give it your best shot.

SIDE NOTE*** Aside from this immediate problem, you probably need an attitude check about where you are. College chances don't often come around twice. You're wasting someone's money by goofing off, whether it be your own or your parent's or whoever's. Come on now, get serious. No time like the present to turn things around.

The test will give you insight into what you still need to learn.
Also, if you do well on the test, the prof may reconsider if you follow the advice of some others.

Or you could bump up against a brick wall.
When I took EE Circuits 201, I had committments that prevented me from taking the tests that were held after class hours. Homework/quizes were A/B, 3 tests were Fs (no shows).
91 on the final. Department head would not overrule the prof. Had to take the course next semester.

wow, what school is this? your prof wouldn't reschedule the exams and your department wouldn't let you drop the course.

If you can do well on the final and talk to the prof that will show him tha tyou are trying and have learned all the other stuff you failed on previously. might have some weight to getting your grade raised.

take the test, ya never know how'll you'll do. I remeber in my college algerbra class back when I dual enrolled, I did really crappy on the first 3 tests (like 1.8s, 2.1s, etc) The 4th test I got a 3.1 , and the final/final test I got a 4.0 on. So I ended up with a B in the class while almost failing for 12 out of the 16 weeks.

Here's a note for later:

Even if you do poorly in a class in college, SHOW UP EVERY DAY AND PARTICIPATE!!! That makes a TON of difference. I know you're thinking that it wouldn't work at YOUR college or with YOUR professors, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that it works. In one class, a friend and I went to every class, but I participated and he didn't. I know with 100% certainty that my grades were lower than his, and I definitely did worse in the class than he did. However, I got a B and he got a C.

In another class, I showed up every day, and while I didn't participate much (nobody did, it was a big class, and it was first thing in the morning), my being 6'9" made my presence obvious, and I did say hi to the professor every morning. At the end of the semester, I was going to get a B, and I mentioned to her that I was really hoping for an A. She told me that it wasn't going to be possible to get the points for an A even with a perfect exam. I came in, rocked the exam, and lo and behold, got an A in the class.

College is not like the rest of your scholastic experience has been. Your paper grades aren't as important.

I will say, however, that given that you've failed 3 tests, you may not really benefit from going to the final. Just make sure that if you do have that teacher again, SHOW UP TO CLASS and participate. It will help a lot.

I did this once....I was absolutely positive I was going to bomb the final and already had an F in the class
so I just didn't go to the final and spent the time with other things.

So when I go to look at my final grades I was shocked to see I got a D in the class! When I looked more
deeply into it, they gave me a 72% C on the final (which was the class average) on an exam I didn't
even take.

LOL worst college fvckup i've seen

I actually got pretty decent grades in stats quizzes but bombed on the final due to a calculator that ran out of batteries. Talked to the prof and got an A so I guess you never know.

I have never failed a class with mathematics in it. That stuff is easy.
