Recovery Software for Damaged Hard Drive
Hi,
Im using Western digital 1tb passport portable hard drive.Yesterday,i accidentally dropped my hard drive on the floor.When i plugged back,the system recognizes the hard drive,but im unable to open it in my computer.
I need to recover my files from that hard drive.Please suggest me some good software or other options.

I would get a new 1TB drive, and clone that over to it, and finally, use testdisk (free).
That is the 'safe' way of doing it.

You can use the image software that comes with most drives (you download it from the maker's web site), or use one of the many free ones available, like clonezilla, or EaseUS free edition, or macrium reflect (free edition), or ...
Then just plug in both HDs, and tell the software to clone it over to the new drive.

I don't know about you but I strongly suggest that noone should drop their hard-drives. Call me crazy.

Swing by the house friday after work and we'll tackle it.
Make sure and bring a good 1TB drive with you besides the dropped drive.

I was able to recover maybe 80% of the data off a dropped portable HD recently.
It was from a laptop that had been dropped while running.
I suspect it just left a horrible scratch as the head smacked the platter and dragged, leaving that area worthless.
I just mounted it in linux and did a cp -a on it.
It'd just fail accessing certain dirs/files, and keep going getting what it could.
Of course this took hours and the drive made horrible sounds, but eventually I got most the data (and luckily all the important stuff like emails).

If the drive cannot be "seen," how can it be cloned?
