I have a bunch of 75's and an 80. Enjoying my latest creation, ground slam Mara with 5.12 attack per second. I laugh at reflect with 24% life leech and 500+ regen.

Yeah, this game definitely has some serious potential. I don't have any characters past about level 38 right now, but I'm on my fourth or fifth different build at the moment. Once I get the itch to try something new, I just fire it up and wham! 30-35 levels later I'm back on Act 1 Cruel ready to Ledge farm... ROFL!

I can tell I'm getting better at the game, and I can tell I picked a damn solid (maybe even OP) build this last time. My first character took me like 40 hours to get to Act I cruel.. this last time, I think it was less than 10, and he's hellishly more powerful than the other one with crappier gear.

I've got a cleave duelist, a fire witch, a freeze pulse tank shadow (this is the badass), and a lightning arrow immortal ranger (who isn't quite immortal yet, but will be). The duelist has already screwed the pooch due to melee issues and won't be getting much attention for a while. Act 3 Normal was enough of a bitch before the change to Lightning Thorns I can't even imagine trying to get into Act 2 Cruel with no way to mitigate Chaos damage and damage reflection yet.

The ranger and shadow are solid builds I got from the forum or the website, and have mitigations or defenses built in along the way, so they are much better prepared for cruel.

Sounds like someone thinks they are pretty tech savvy, yet is not (keylogger/trojan present). My pass is barely strong, because I did not want to have to 'write it down'; 12 characters with only 1 number (because I don't care; it's a free to play game, not my bank account).

Get at least one character into maps. It is an entirely different game once you reach that point, and if you keep making new characters, you are missing out on end-game (which will show you much more about how to build a character than any post or trial to lvl 60ish ever will).

Well, I'm pretty confident that this shadow can go the distance, so he'll probably be the first one that makes it that far. It's a solid build, and it's fun as hell, and it hasn't even really gotten to the point where it has the *fun* passives or linked skills yet

It's the only build yet where I didn't die a lot fighting Merveil and Vaal. Could be becuase I know the fights better, but I think it's because the build is better. I still had to have help on Piety on Normal, but that's simply because there wasn't any way I was going to put out enough DPS to take her down at the time, and I was impatient to move on.

Piety is actually pretty easy, even on merciless (with maxxed resists which are easy to max).

It isn't about attacking her; but not allowing her to change form. Those circles on the ground... if you can kill them quickly, you can literally facetank her as she 'decides what to do next'. If you leave them, then she never has to decide, she just beelines to the nearest circle.

You can even setup your strat to take advantage of this. Kill all fire 'circles', and she will NEVER transform into the hasted dual wielding fire form. So if you can facetank her 'ice bow' form, leave those circles, kill all the rest and roflstomp her.

Took me forever to realize how that fight worked, because I was too busy dieing.

Wasn't expecting much but the trailer video kind of blew me away... this game looks fantastic. Signing up for beta now.

edit: does this game support SLI?

anybody that enjoys the genre even a little bit owes it to themselves to check out the game. though you really need to get into the recipes and skill linking for the game to really shine.

Not really, but you can force it with the nvidia control panel and get decent results I've heard. I haven't tried it myself, though.

So far really progressing doing elemental cleave. Using a 6link with cleave, multistrike, conc effect, weapon elemental, blood magic, life leech. Hope I don't die.

The game seems too clunky. Slow and rough animations. I wish it had the smooth animation of d3. It just feels amateurish.

It has great ideas though.

It gets somewhat smoother when your attack speed increases.

Its intended. If they wanted to, they could make the game "feel" good by reducing cast and attack speeds and letting you attack while moving. Then it would be too easy and they'll need to put in elite packs with tight enrage timers that 1shot you....

It is kind of like D2 in that in the beginnign you feel slow and clunky. Yet by the end of the game your attack speed and movement speed can be crazy high (higher than d3 as far as I know).

You are right that the animation isn't as smooth. But they've been working on improving the animations and don't have the money of a company like blizzard to back them up, so I forgive them

If I understand this.. D3 is better because of smooth animations? Those overshadow the massive flaw D3 is as a game? POE has great gameplay and poor animations.. it is an opinion only.. but I will take the chunky animations with great gameplay over smooth and slick but poor gameplay any day..

no harm if you prefer D3.. Its only my opinion it was a bad game with slick graphics and a cash grab by blizz.. (d2 was quite awesome and POE is clearly a rip off of all the good things it contained.. with some added stuff)

That's one way. Or you can realize she has a timer on her form. I use pillars to "tank" her in the ice bow form. When I see her run to a red circle. I drop something to distract her while I run to the opposite side of the room. Doing so gets her out of her agro radius for finding you in the fire form. Wait about 20 seconds and she'll revert to human form and won't go for a circle if she can't see you.

One problem with the circles, is she can spawn them on demand right next to her sometimes. So keeping up with the circle clearing can be hard. Either way works to make her easy enough to kill.

lol @ people that equate slow/clunky animations with slow/clunky gameplay. This game has neither btw. Very smooth and professional.

The animations can use some week. GGG has acknowledged that, and are continuing to update animations to be of higher quality.

Still, I think the game looks great. I think the ugliness of Act 1 turns a lot of people away, though.

How is this game if you really just want to play for free and dont plan on spending a dime on "micro-transactions" ?

And is it like old school Diablo? I come from Diablo 1.

Also, compared to Torchlight 2 which offers the best single player experience?

The micro-transactions are cosmetic only, no gameplay effect, ever. There are some utility ones like character slots and extra stash slots, but nothing that directly affects a character, and they vow there never will be.

It's kind of a cross between Diablo II and FF7. There is a passive tree, of which class mainly just determines where upon it you start, rather than locking you into a set of passive skills, and then active skills are derived from gems which are like materia that are freely socketable into and out of equipment on a whim.

There are some seriously fun builds out there, and there are a wide variety of things you can do with each base class with the passives. No two characters have to be exactly alike to be powerful; even if they are using the same weapon type and active skill and links, their passive tree could be massively different.

To answer the last question, this is an MMO, so there is no single player experience. You don't have to party to succeed, and there are a couple of builds that are more viable as solo than in a group.

Personally I've played all the way through TL2 with my brother and I've been playing PoE solo and I defiantly feel like PoE has so many more levels of depth. Torchlight 2 was a great experience and a worthy sequel to the first, but I really would recommend playing Path of Exile. I never played through Diablo 1 myself as I was a bit young and Diablo 2 was the prettier and more "up to date" choice. Torchlight feels like a starter version and I cannot go back to playing it after spending a few hundred hours into PoE.

As for the micro-transactions they offer 0 benefit for playing and are just there for show and shininess. As stated in this thread previously from the developers:
"The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win."

Really enjoying this one. I like the passive skill tree and the active skills as sockets concept.
