8 miles into the ride, I popped a link on my chain. What the heck? This is the second one in a couple of months. I was able to partially pop it back in and limped home. I guess the chains were unable to cope with my 2 KW of power.

29 miles today on a mellow mountain/road ride with my buddy who got hit by a deer 4 months ago and is still recovering. We found that the off-road trails are still mostly snowed-under, so we ended up riding the road mostly.
After months of riding the utility bike with bags, lights, commuting cargo and ~1kg studded tires, getting out the XC-race mountain bike was nothing less than a revelation, even just with the medium-weight training wheelset, not the race wheels. Ohhhhh yeah! Acceleration at last!

Seems like after 10 weeks, my respiratory system is slowly coming back to me..
But today it snowed 20 cms, and there's a cold spell that's going to stick around for another week or two.
March is supposed to be dry, and average on temperatures...so I expect to finally, finally be able to get back on the bike then. Already missed a few nice mild weekends of foehn, because my throat was massively restricted by tons of mucus.
Going to resume volleyball practice tonight, in hope of that preparing my body slightly for the upcoming challenge.

Had high hopes for getting out on the road Sunday, but had something come up and I couldn't even fit a trainer workout in. So, 18 miles on the trainer last night.

29 miles today (3 in the morning, 26 after work with 2400ft ascent). I promised myself the frozen pizza if I did both of the ascents I had in mind (they're both dead-end grinds). Virtue is its own reward, but pizza never hurts either
I had a bag of dog treats along for Jack The Super-Friendly Border Collie, but he wasn't out tonight at the top of Nasty Climb #2, so maybe next time...

First ride of the year today. Started getting mini cramps in the right thigh after about 15 miles, on the home leg of a 20 mile to and fro. Cold wasn't so bad, I brought gloves but didn't have to use them, even when the sun went away for a some intervals.
Took me about 75 minutes, total. Some wind, in the back on the way out, in the face on the way home.
I guess it wasn't an unmitigated disaster, but after last years riding I felt quite the chump.
Oh well, climbing season doesn't start for another two months yet, leaves me some time to put in the miles.

40 miles today, plus or minus one. I rode with my buddy who's recovering from his broken leg when he was run over by a deer. He's riding pretty good, considering.

It seems like come March the cold will be relenting, with some frost free nights, and I can take up commuting again. The days are certainly long enough by now, if I can make myself get up in the mornings.
Probably should have my spring maintenance done soon as well - pedal box is clicking quite a lot, should probably swap the bearing...
I wonder if that's covered by warranty...

Start of march - and massive pollution issue, with particulates above 80 micrograms per cubic meter for the past week. Having a genetic disposition for asthmatic reactions, I'm not too hot to ride in that soup. Hopefully we'll get some wind blowing through the valley soon.
The weather is definitely coming along, this weekend up to ten deg C... But with all the skiing tourists passing along the highway, the smog situation is unlikely to change.
