New official trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrCJQJcZ_bM

Even having completed the game, I've already watched this back to back like 10 times...

No real spoilers, most of what might be a spoiler is revealed like 20 minutes into the game and is widely known to be the back drop for setting things into motion anyway.

Haven't played Xenoblade but everyone who rants and raves about Ni no Kuni also ranks Xenoblade up there with it. I managed to source a local copy new for $49, haven't started it yet.

Do yourself a favour and play it in Dolphin. HD really allows this game so shine and shows how good the developers were able to utilize the Wii. I also used a mod that replaced Wii controller button pictures ingame with 360 controller buttons, so I suggest you find that.

http://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.ph...0_Button_Icons

Xenoblade isn't particularly challenging to get Dolphin set-up for and crashes are fairly rare (plus you can save virtually anywhere at anytime, negating risk), so it's totally worth it.

I'll check this game out eventually after a price drop (if one exists, since it's rare). Although few and far between, the quality JRPGs this generation (Xenoblade, Radiant Historia, Lost Odyssey) have been worth it and this seems to rank up there.

For some reason, I had a bit of trouble setting things up with Dolphin and my 360 controller. Even though I set the buttons up as Wiimote buttons, I could never get past Xenoblade's title screen! I keep meaning to go back and look into it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

If you have the in game ticket already in your inventory, you don't get to do anything with familiars until after Temple of Trails.

I feel kind of bad admitting this, but I'm not nearly as enthralled as the rest of you with this game. I do enjoy some aspects of it, but I'm rather let down with others. Frankly, the writers have done a poor job at pulling me in with the story. Sure, the beginning is rather gripping, but after that, the story just slowly trods along at a meager pace. I think it's made worse by the fact that Oliver is an incredibly boring main character. I actually thought that Oliver was maybe 10-12 years old, but it turns out that he's 15. Seriously? This reminds me a lot of the Blue Dragon thread where everyone thought the main characters were 12, but it turns out... they're actually 16.

Does the music get any better? I'm having a hell of a time actually caring about the soundtrack and I still haven't heard anything that I consider a "killer track." It's what I've dubbed that one song that you hear that you just want to keep listening to over and over. Examples of songs from the Blue Dragon OST are Mechabots Army Charges!, Giant Mechat, and In Search of the Ruins. To give you an idea, iTunes says that I've listened to that first song 730 times (by the way, it's #2), and the other two are 192 and 204 respectively. It probably isn't surprising that I like that soundtrack a bit more since I do like electronica and it was composed by Nobou Uematsu.

I will say that I enjoy the visuals quite a bit as they are absolutely gorgeous to look at. Level 5 did a fantastic job with creating a game in what translates to an anime game. I don't normally enjoy vastly different battle systems. It might seem strange, but I actually like the standard turn-based battle systems. I don't know why people consider them to be so boring. It isn't the fault of the battle system, that's usually the fault of being forced to fight boring fights over and over. To be clear, Ni no Kuni isn't devoid of that either! I've had to fight plenty of fights where all I do is mash X and I might only take 1 or 2 points of damage throughout the entire fight.

Maybe I need to play it more? However, I'm having a hard time playing Ni no Kuni ($60 game) over Super Hexagon ($1 time-waster game).

The dragon theme and ending theme have been stuck in my head all week. All the variations on the main theme are addicting. I loop it on the PS3 dashboard were you select the disc drive and it changes to a game preview and loops the music

Oliver is officially 13 per game documentation, but he seems more like 8-10 to me.

Its a bit simplistic in story and they really did miss a lot of opportunity to capitalize on various tragedies and plot twists as the game goes on (not enough drama and voice acting etc) but in my case its the thought that counts. The developers had their heart's in the right places (no pun intended) despite any limitations due to budgets etc, and that's as much as I can ask for in this day and age.

Ah, I don't think that I've heard the dragon theme, but I believe you linked the ending theme. I think the one thing that gets me about the OST is that I just don't hear much variation in the themes yet. Maybe that's just because they love to recycle that one song and use it over and over?

Hm, I don't remember what I read that said he was 15. It might have been the strategy guide, or I might just be getting old.

At least where I am in the story, I think the biggest fault is that I can't stand how any story (whether it's from a movie, game or book) tells me that I need to dislike a villain just because. This is one of Blue Dragon's story's biggest faults as well. In other words, don't tell me that I need to stop Jabo (Shadar) because he's a "bad guy", and I couldn't care less about him making people sad. Let Barney and Lambchop take care o' that! People wonder why most movies and games suck these days... because there's so little attachment to characters that you don't care what happens to them. In some cases, they even make you dislike them for being the opposite of what they should be (i.e. Green Lantern being a wuss instead of a hero for 95% of the movie).

I think Oliver needs to transplant some joy into me... stat!

As you progress Oliver witnesses first hand what Shadar is doing to people and it gets more personal. What started out as a selfish reason ends up being a crusade to do what's right.

But yeah... they started out WAY too fast, too much in a hurry to get you into the other world having Drippy dump everything on you 3 minuted into the game out of the blue and they didn't milk the opening tragedy at all. That's why the whole "Shadar is a bad guy" is forced down your throat. Slow down guys... Good stories need to creep up slowly and surprise you with self determined revelations, not be spelled out for you that fast.

About 25 hours in, just met up with the air pirates after clearing out the various quests and hunts you can get upon finishing up with Hamelin. Really enjoying the game so far. Rather than trying too hard to be different, the creators did an excellent job of combining the best elements of JRPGs with a wonderful presentation to put together a truly enjoyable gaming experience.

I'm just afraid now that I might have been bitten by the JRPG bug again...

I loved this game...until the ending. There was so much missed opportunity and it felt really rushed. Now on to the post game content.

Finally started playing and so far I really enjoy it. My biggest complaint is definitely the localization. I speak Japanese fluently so I've been playing w/ Japanese audio and English subtitles and it almost feels like I'm playing two different games simultaneously...

The Japanese track seems much more understated and realistic. Shizuku (Drippy? bleh) is kind of wacky w/ his Kansai accent, but other than that the dialog seems much more austere. The English translation is way more over the top... it seems like every name is some kind of pun and it feels like it's targeted more towards kids than the Japanese version is.

Also you have the names that were changed for no reason... Mark => Philip ? Why do that? It makes my brain asplode. I think I heard there were more later on in the game too...

Going through withdrawal.... Been 2 weeks since I completed everything, and today I find myself whistling the theme to myself and want to play but there's nothing left to do.

So there's a PSN deal where if you spend $50, they give you a $10 code or something. Should I buy this game? I would probably consider JRPGs to be my favorite genre (I like Final Fantasy X, XII, even XIII and XIII-2).

Actually the real question isn't so much, should I get it, but should I get it right this second? Is it worth the extra $20 I would save picking it up in 6-12 months?

If you'll play it right now, sure... why not?

I have a few games in my backlog that I've already bought, but none of them are "I must play this now" games. Just a lot of stuff I haven't gotten to this generation like the Mass Effect Trilogy, Bioshock Trilogy, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc... I want to play them before the PS4/720 drops and those games look dated.

In about 6 months, if It drops in price, I'll definitely get it. 29.99 is more what I'm willing to pay
