Both of those are less fun cars. The STi because it's AWD, and the TT-RS because it's FWD-based AWD which is even worse

The STi is a lot of fun and a lot more practical. How much "fun" can you have on your daily commute anyway? Well, unless you're riding a motorcycle of course.

says the guy that has never driven either....
I personally would take an evo, but being AWD makes the car that much more capable and fun. I have both a rear wheel drive high'er hp and awd high'er hp car and the AWD car is more fun.

Corvettes hold their value well but still drop until they reach a certain age. Mine is a 73 and is starting to go up. So keep it for 40ish years and you might make your money back... minus use and upkeep of course.
But yea bang for the buck Corvette's are hard to beat.

this is what i'm waiting on. if i could get like..an 07-08 C6 for $20-25k i'd probably sell my genesis coupe and jump on that shit!

Z06 only. Base model has too much of a garage queen status symbol associated with it; it's like the domestic 325i that everybody parks outside their empty garage.

Nope, cars suck...you cant get any jobs done. Trucks is all I drive, you just always need a lot of room to haul stuff. Even if I had to choose between a Lambergini or a Rig...I'd choose the rig.

um ok
I would rather have this than a car or truck
back on topic. I want a base C6 and make it into an obvious sleeper. I would even put horrible chrome wheels on there so haters would roll up and see an old guy in a vette with a really quiet exhaust...After working on my buddies lingenfelter TT I have started to get jelous of how easy it is to get power out of those engines...

You guys gotta stop caring what the haters say. If you buy a base C6 and mod it its cheaper than the C6Z and will be cheaper and easier to drive fast. Guys have been complaining about skittishness and hop in cornering on the C6Z06 since launch.
Base 6 is a clean slate! Do with it what you will!

I've driven a Golf which is the same thing-- pretty boring. I haven't driven an STi but I really don't see the appeal of AWD unless you need it for snow. I'll test drive both those cars and get back to you... well it will probably be a regular TT Quattro.
More capability doesn't mean more fun... it often makes a car less fun. Being able to oversteer on the street is fun. Understeering your AWD front heavy car may be safer for new drivers but it's less fun. And nobody cares about your car's nurburgurgring time!

lol, I can't buy the lesser model of anything. Base model is good but why buy base when the z06 offers considerable more oomph out of the factory and serves as a higher starting point

The only thing that makes me think a Corvette is a status symbol is the automatic trans, which most of them have. For what other reason would a person buy a sports car with an auto?

Z06 is better but a C6 version will set you back at least $38-40k where you can find a base model for $25-28k. If the choice became C5 Z06 vs. base C6, I'd rather have the C6 personally.

a golf is not comparable to an STI.
come drive my AWD evo (not a serious invitation ) and tell me it doesn't over steer.
who said anything about a 'ring time?

A Golf is comparable to an Audi TT
I'm guessing it takes much more horsepower to get the Evo to oversteer than a Corvette

Sure but what percentage of Corvette owners have bad knees? Oh wait, they're all old guys so probably a big chunk... but of course those old guys are from the musclecar era when everything was automatic and they buy Vettes for status anyway.

the TT is still a good car, but not really comparable to an STI either.
watch some topgear vids on the evo and then get back to me on handling of the evo. great thing is, it doesn't take much to make power with an evo if you want. and you have the ability to drive it year round, 4 doors, and a trunk.
I definitely like front engine rwd, but my awd car is overall more fun

People who do that are idiots. Although, I do love watching videos of jackasses turning off the TC and throwing their Vettes into a tree or parked car or a curb.

I would think it all depends on your level of income. When I was starting out my career the thought didnt even cross my mind. It is a pure extravagant expense that one doesnt need. Now however that I've advanced, I've had 3 of them. An 08 z06, 03 z06 and now a 12 z06. The 08 was a much better car than the 03, obviously and the 12 is just more refined. Best performing car for the money for sure. I've test driven almost every sports car and performance car in my price range and went with the vette. I also had over 20 track days on the 08 and have to say not many people could pass me lol.
Also I test drove an 06 viper and ended up passing on it.. I liked some things but some other things were a total dealbreaker.
