It's a low price, but it's also a seriously compromised ultrabook compared to current models.

Pretty close actually. This notebook is almost 2 years old. Unless it has an amazing screen or something other than "under the hood" hardware that makes it desirable I think $699 is a bit steep.

Yea. If you guys are brand whores newegg has their Acer models on sale somewhat often. Just picked mine up for 680 shipped.

i5 Ivy Bridge, 6gigs ram, Nvidia GT640M + 1 gig deticated vram (keplar based) + 20 gig ssd cache. Not bad, and they even squeezed in a dvd burner.

<----Still wants to have CD rom drive.

i don't think you're getting a 1600x900 screen on the acer and the ridiculously light 2.5lbs.

the acer's undoubtedly a better multimedia/gaming device, but for people who want a portable office/web/general purpose work machine, the samsung is way superior.

I've seen current Series 9's go for $899. That's not terribly far away.

With something priced like this, $699 which is hardly a disposable price, and no real possible upgrades, you really do want to get as much power as you can get. Especially in the graphics department if you hopes to do any light gaming on it (occasional Diablo or WoW while on the road).

If you don't really care about graphics at all but still want a nice display (IPS), why not just go further down in price and pick up an X220. They're going for $400 on Lenovo's outlet site.
