WebMachines RX70W 7" 16gb tablet for $100 NEW in Korea!

Hey all, so i'm working in Korea (currently stationed in Tokyo but doing a stint in Korea), and i opted to look at the local electronics market here. I found a "WebMachines RX70W" which is a 7" tablet, 16gb (with 32gb Micro SD expansion), 1024x600 resolution, android 4.03 OS, 1GB RAM, and it's only $105 NEW including tax!!!!!!!!! i was shocked! The screen's not as vivid as the google nexus, but hey its $150 cheaper! Here's a link to the model page in Korean (specs at bottom):

What do you guys think of it? The TFT LCD @ 170ppi (vs IPS LCD of nexus 7 @ 216 ppi) is probably where they're cutting the costs. But those are still decent specs for $105, no??

I'm thinking of buying it as i've never seen a tablet that cheap, but wanna hear opinions on it! cheers.

Not only do I worry about the resolution, but also the viewing angles. Some of the cheaper tablets don't use IPS quality displays and looks bad at even small off angles. And I'm just not sure I could suffer with 1024x600 on a 7 inch screen anymore.

News of this new Ainol Novo 7 Venus is being passed around Android sites today. It appears to be a Nexus 7 clone. Even has a 1280x800 resolution IPS display and an Actions 1.5GHz quad core A9 processor (no idea how this compares with a Tegra 3). And micro SD slot. They mentioned a $155 price.

Of the sub $200 tablets, it looks like one of the more promising ones. However I'm still sticking with my opinion that spending less than $200 on a tablet is a bad idea. The Nexus 7 is still the best value.

Ainol Novo would be the one corner-cutter I'd consider. Only build quality is the issue.

Don't ever buy a TN panel tablet. Make sure it's IPS/PLS/AMOLED.

Are you trying to tell me that a $100 tablet won't have the top of the line display on it? I am flabbergasted by this revelation.

No, I'm trying to say, instead of wasting $100 on a tablet with a TN display with terrible viewing angles and resolution, I'd rather pay some more and get a tablet with at least an IPS display. Hope that clears things up for you.

The cheapest tablets can be made for about 40 dollars. This includes screen, a cortex a8 processor, 512mb of ram, android 4, 840x480 screen, multi-touch capacitative screen, 4gbs of flash, built in wifi, camera, microphone, micro sdhc (sometimes they call it the older name tf card but it is the same thing.) All this only costs about 40 dollars. To put this in comparison this is similar in specs to a droid x/iphone 3gs which were top of the line phones about 30 months ago.

I wouldn't spend $80, 100, 150 dollars on a these generic tablets. I'd save up another $100 and get the Nexus 7. But if you can get that thing for $40 and want to get a feel of tablets with little commitment, I guess it wouldn't be the worst decision someone makes.

Read reviews of those cheap-crap tablets (EXACT model) before you spend money on them.

I thought one of those Ainol Novos might be worth looking into- until I started reading reviews and hands-on user experience from owners who had one for a while.

The Ainol and just about ALL of the cheap tablets skimp on battery. We're talking embarrassingly bad battery life of 2 hours max, as well as the battery continuing to run down even after the screen is off. Unless always kept plugged in, every time you go to use the thing it's likely to be drained, even when you haven't used it in a while.

And the touch screen on most of the crappier ones are just awful.

If people really want a tablet with decent user experience, just bite the bullet and buy a decent tablet with favorable reviews, from a reputable maker. There's a reason why quality costs more.

I agree the bare minimum should be the nexus 7 in today's world. I personally would not tolerate anything less for my time is worth the small amount of savings to spend $199.

I can't say this for the whole world though. Many people in third world countries can't spend $200 on a toy, they can spend $40 dollars on something that connects them to the web and opens up whole new opportunities. It is amazing though how much cpu power you can get for $40 dollars now.

thanks guys, yes i looked more closely @ the TN panel...it was kinda disappointing. IPS is the only way to go for something being held in ur hand and constantly moved around! Google Nexus is the bare minimum for quality i guess. I just didn't realize how many tablet brands were out there! Always thought it was just the Nexus, Galaxy Tab, and Ipads...:p
