Got an email today saying I have invites as well.
The amount of depth the game has is amazing. They need to have a "new player" client, that only has the original 30-40 heroes in it, and add heroes as you play. That helped me since I started about a year ago. I learned most of the heroes that were part of the game, and then learned a little about each new hero or two they added every week.
It frustrating to play a game where you have to learn your own hero's skill, and 9 other heroes' skills as well.

Bots are quite helpful for learning each hero, but tend to do things that real players wouldn't.
The hard ones also borderline cheat.
I also have 4 invites left to hand out, PM me your Steam name and I'll send them out when I get home.

Any LoL players that are now playing this that could compare the 2?
I played a ton of League of Legends but very little recently. Just got tired of the same maps, same formula every game.
But, It was very fun and addicting for over a year.
how does Dota2 compare?

I like it better than LoL.
The game is more skill based than LoL, no worrying about summoner spells or rune pages giving people an edge over others.

Whomever sent me this game as gift on Steam, I salute you good sir! Thank you. You are a scholar and a gentleman; one day I hope to actually fire the game up and play it.

It has denies, which is probably the biggest difference. Also, all players are equal in terms of skills available and such. Also, there is in game chat which for the life of me I can't figure out why they haven't implemented this in LoL.

-There can be several lane compositions... a tri-lane, 2 dual-lane, etc
-you can use neutral creeps to deny your creeps
-you can deny your creeps with CC, denys xp/gold to opponent and can control creep line
-towers are supposed to be protected by the heroes, not the oposite..and tower diving is really common...
-way more active itens
-INSANE HARD CARRY

Coming from a LoL Sona player, DOTA2 has quite the learning curve for me.

I have it, but haven't played too much, but I have about 6 invites if anyone is interested. PM me your steam username or email.
Personally I like LoL better, but I think it’s because I’m not used to the champs. The game does not seem as responsive to me, like it takes a few extra frames to execute a command compared to LoL.

1,869.6 hrs on record since last year for myself.
Very competitive and the community could be harsh at times once you hit over 400ish games if your not on your A game.
Not a fan of the report abuse that's been going on definitely needs more fine tuning.

For noobs, Drow Ranger and Sniper are the easiest to learn.
Drow dont have much spells, but the "Silent" is the most important for ganking and you can cast it from a distance.
Sniper has an instant hit animation for people that have trouble last hitting and denying creeps.
Just be sure if you are on a pub server, to let people know your are noob and dont take the middle lane.
Both heroes are unstoppable if given enough farm and after the 30 minute mark.

I never understood the massive appeal of these games, but maybe that's because I suck really badly at them and the learning curve is pretty much vertical. People say once you get the gist of it you'll be hooked but I haven't found a way to enjoy MOBA games yet (tried LoL some a while back, got Dota 2 for free like everyone else and decided to try it). Even if I win I didn't really enjoy it. Might be the long length of the games VS my short attention span

I don't even know what kind of game this is; some sort of RPG I assume? Downloaded it last night, but will not get a chance to try it out until the weekend.

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), also known as action real-time strategy (ARTS), is a sub-genre of the real-time strategy (RTS) genre, in which often two teams of players compete with each other in discrete games, with each player controlling a single character through an RTS-style interface. It differs from traditional RTS games in that there is no unit construction and players control just one character. In this sense, it is a fusion of action games and real-time strategy games. The genre emphasizes cooperative team-play; players select and control one "hero", a powerful unit with various abilities and advantages to form a team's overall strategy. The objective is to destroy the opponents' main structure with the assistance of periodically spawned computer-controlled units that march towards the enemy's main structure via paths referred to as "lanes".

Just, no. Drow has a horrible attack animation and new players shouldn't start as squishy carries without escape abilities. Bots are a great way to learn the game, but if you just want to jump in my suggestions are Lich/Tidehunter. If you want to try a carry maybe try out Viper.

Luna, Witch Doctor, Venommancer and Keeper of the Light to a lesser degree are pretty n00b friendly as well.
