That's actually a requirement to get on the Ouya. But that can just be a free demo of the first level and then you pay to unlock the rest or something similar, many devs will go down that route. Or they could have in-app purchases like coins or whatever to help you out.

I've been watching it very closely. I was really upset that I missed the deadline to Kickstart some cash toward it. It might end up a novelty, but it could also be a revolutionary device. Who knows? It's only $100 either way when it's all said and done.

amazing how people assume this is a Phone on your living room TV.....should we do the ASSUME joke? nah... I do suspect (and have seen) quit a few Phone/tablet games being ported. That's good and bad.. The Wii suffered from utter crap (shovelware) as do android and Ios right now.. its all a HUGE money grab right now.. And There is no reason to not think it will be on this too. But with just a small amount of google or youtube you can see some pretty impressive stuff. Not a huge amount, but its out there.

This is not for the COD/halo Xbox kids.. I don't think they even expect 10-20% of 360 (or PS3) numbers. There is my assumption. This is more like the GPX, NEGEO GOLD, its for the people who like something different.

Take a look at all the threads here early in the Kickstarter.. almost all wrong, all assumptions.. even PennyArcade had taken the "its vapor" and now that it appears to be one step from done they have taken the "its crap" stance.. all from no hands on, no game time, no nothing but a video on youtube of an unboxing.. QUALITY journalism there.. And the sheep will follow.

Its still a high possibility it will fail hard, but deciding it before anything is out is pretty bad way to start. I know this is all just discussion, but far to much is.. "angry birds on TV" Which again, is probably going to happen.. but that's not all that will happen.

talk about low cash to start a console.. actually the hardware was all done by others (tablets, phones)pretty much, so very little cash was needed for that. Some blue tooth controlers and a box .. not going to take alot of coin.

Closed system app store- dev kits let you load from any old webpage you want.. just like most android devices.. this could change.. and since its a hackable console.. even if it does.. it wont be for long.

hack-Pirate? yes for sure.. Good game with NO DRM still sells.. again, yes for sure (many on PC have shown this)... heck even STEAM has shown you sell stuff for nice prices.. even the pirates buy it.. Most people wont spend the time an effort to steal a $.99 or $5 game.. sure some will.

disclosed- have one ordered. personally i think it will not be huge at all.. but i think it will find a small successful nitch..

And even if it doesn't go huge, which I don't think it will, it will still has the self perpetuating machine of Android going for it. Even if there aren't many Ouya specific games, it will be able to run sideloaded Android games that support a controller, as well as countless emulators, xmbc, etc.

I'm a little more interested in the HDMI-stick android computers, especially the ones that can be powered from the HDMI port. Plug it in to your TV or monitor, grab a bluetooth control, and game. (Or listen to streamed music, watch streamed video, etc.)

The self-powered one that was just KickStarted has low-end specs, but that will increase over time.

I don't think it can connect to the Android play store, as that requires the device to be a phone I believe. But it can run Android games that are ported to its own store, yes. It can run many Android APKs natively with little changing.

Might be a "build it and they will come" kind of dream. By having the hardware, developers might release games that can run on it.

There already are a lot of games that will be ready by the consumer launch day, although the quality of some may be questionable. But that's the nature of a console which lets literally any kid with a computer write a game for it. Some will be true gems, a lot will be garbage.

Hm the controller looks a bit boxier than I expected, but it might be alright! This could be pretty good if it has properly implemented XBMC (or Plex, etc.) support that includes an optional remote!

Then how does your tablet with wifi only do it? There's no phone there

Good point...But Google has some restriction like that, the Ouya does not have direct access to the play store, nor do Android personal media players.

Then what's the point? How do you even get games then?

Ouya has their own game store.

Eh...then it's likely the pickings will be slim I'd say.

The market is too small for real devs to go after it when they can just make something that runs on your Galaxy S3 and can have more hits from millions of devices.

I understand the point of the system but I think it won't work. It's underpowered compared to a real console (can find PS3s for $120 now) and no game on the Ouya will rival the games on a PS3 or Xbox 360. I also understand that's not the point, but then this "console" has no marketing strategy. Why would I buy it? Nobody has told me yet. If I was a developer maybe...but then you have a PC with an infinitely larger potential market.

I dunno.

Maybe Zygna will make games for it? Since their relationship with Facebook has soured a little, and they are looking for bigger markets.

I got my OUYA console today. Haven't plugged it in yet, but will soon. I'm shocked at how small the thing is, I guess it makes sense as it is essentially a cellphone without a screen or battery.
