Anyone else keep track of their mileage?
I've been doing this for the last 3 years.
This is all calculated by miles and gallons per fillup to 1st click. I try to use the same gas station as often as possible.
2008 VW GTI 4 door DSG (Tune/Intake/Exhaust) Rated 22/29/25
Highway: 70-80MPH
City: fairly quick starts, 5-10 MPH over
Track: pushed to the limits of car/skill
2010 average: 24.429 MPG
2011 average: 22.332 MPG
2012 average: 23.075 MPG
2010 best tank average: 29.511
2011 best tank average: 27.083
2012 best tank average: 29.167
2010 worst tank average: 10.835 (Road America)
2011 worst tank average: 7.892 (Autobahn Country Club)
2012 worst tank average: 7.692 (Blackhawk Farms Raceway)

I just look at the car's MPG calculator and knock off 10%
How do your manual calculations compare against the car's computer?

I might if I drove a lot. My 2010 has 9K miles on it and stays in a garage. It'll last 20 years easy at this point (and I spend very little on gas).

I don't formally keep track of it but I calculate it every time I fill up.

We record everything in the wifes car.
date\gallons\price per gallon\miles per tank\total mileage
In my personal car and my bikes, I check MPG every tank full using "trip miles\gallons accepted" and as long as its consistent I don't write it down.

i keep track of miles, gas prices, gallons from when i bought my car and all the service records.
tracking miles, gas, and gallons was just a hobby to look at trends. I dont find the information very useful just interesting to look at.
2008 - AVG paid Gas/gallon - 2.43
2009 - AVG paid Gas/gallon - 2.62
2010 - AVG paid Gas/gallon - 3.03
2011 - AVG paid Gas/gallon - 3.70
2012 - AVG paid Gas/gallon - 3.90

Yes I do, pretty anal about it
My car is older than trip computers but I have a ScanGauge that is better than most built-in systems. It's fairly accurate, usually within 0.2 MPG per tank (<1% error). I use an app on my phone to permanently record the stats. The PITA is when my wife drives my car and does me a "favor" by filling up the car but not synchronizing things so I have to start a new history.
Since late last July (~7500 miles ago) I'm averaging 29.73 MPG with a best tank of 31.8 and a worst tank of 28.1. My overall mileage has predictably suffered since I started wfh full time because I no longer have a nice long highway stretch and more of my trips are very short. I'm still happy with my fuel economy since my car (98 Accord) is rated at 20/27/23. I drive speed limit+ but still conservatively.

I use a program called Mileage on my phone. I've been keeping data for 2 years for 2 vehicles, my F150 and Grand Marquis. Both are 4.6L motors and 4-speed automatics. Truck has 3.55 ring and pinion ratio and Grand Marquis has 2.73s
Here's some nuggets
F-150
Average MPG: 16.57
Average distance per tank: 322.56 miles
Average fill: 19.4 gallons
Average cost per tank: $67.12
Average price per gallon: $3.46
Estimated cost per year: $1088.90
Grand Marquis
Average MPG: 22.23
Average distance per tank: 270.21 miles
Average fill: 12.09 gallons
Average cost per tank: $42.04
Average price per gallon: $3.47
Estimated cost per year: $1047.51
EDIT: I tried to get my wife to record her odometer and save her receipts for her S40 but that happened exactly once so I gave up. My parents frequently borrow the Grand Marquis to travel and I force them to save the info.

I do for the toy, but not my daily driver oddly enough.
I track dates, odometer, gallons, and fuel price. From those I project my trending year mileage + simple averages, fuel cost per mile etc.

Car computer is typically 1-2 MPG high in mixed driving and 1-2 MPG low on all highway.
As for costs I don't really track prices as I always relied on my Discover card spend analyzer for that. Then my number got stolen twice in a year and wiped out my history. Boo

I don't for my work vehicle, I fill up daily and it's to much like more work. I do use an app to keep track of it with my personal vehicle.

i have a google spreadsheet with every bit of gas i've ever put through it. as of my fill up yesterday i've put 2211.71 gallons into the car over the course of 64147 miles, totalling $6,320.14. average MPG is just a touch over 29 and average gallon of gas is $2.85. not only do i buy mostly from the same station, i get it mostly from the same pump.

I did when I first got my car but don't care anymore even though I drive 100 miles a day. Just cant be bothered, its not like I'm going to NOT drive if its bad.
Computer says 25-26 mpg on a 2004 Mini S with a pulley and intake.

No -
its a commuter, almost 17K miles in just 11.5 months of ownership. I fill it up way too often with a 12G tank but have a on board trip computer saying that I've averaged 31.4mpg over 15,500 miles.

I used to till I forgot to export FuelLog's database once before flashing a rom update. Lost 3 months worth of fillup data. Havent bothered since then. I get around 15 to 16mpg.
If I'm lucky.

I do in my 2012 GTI DSG (Stage 1 Tune/Intake). I get around 26mpgs average over the past 4 months I've owned it.
I drive 54 miles a day for work 5 days a week though, so its mostly all highway. All the little in town driving is what kills my average though, I drive like an old person on my commute and make up for it by being enthusiastic around town.

I usually check what my average is per tank fillup but I don't write it down. It is pretty consistent.

I don't much on my Mazda, but it gets about 26 whenever I do.
My Cobalt figures mileage for me, and I have gotten between 27 and 36 per tank.

I just track mileage by month and that's it. As long as I get more than 190 miles out of a tank, I don't worry.
