Been there my friend. The intersection of impulse buy and maturity. I find it helps to think it over with a six pack / pint.

I said the same thing until I played it. Then I said to myself..."what a waste"

That game seems like a love or hate affair, many reviewers are pretty harsh on it, but the people who like it like it a lot.
Still not enough must have games on the Wii U. I'd like to see a Skyrim sized Zelda or a Metroid comparable to Halo 4 or something like that.

The day after new Zelda comes out is the day I get a WiiU. Even if the Zelda isn't radically different than what we've already had, I love them that much. Also a fresh Metroid game would just be the icing on top as well. I really do hope we get new IP's with the WiiU though.

Maybe with them releasing a 2.5D Mario game on the Wii-U, we'll see a 2.5D Metroid game. Oh, I can only hope! I loved Super Metroid!

I think it's ridiculous that they couldn't make it displayport 1.2 compliant with 120 Hz input support or at least 120 Hz input over HDMI. It's also ridiculous that they couldn't have toslink output. 16b 44.1KHz 2 channel lossless has been missed.
It would be awesome to play an Fzero X HD at 120 fps (with the physics adjusted for 120 fps) but nintendo blew it like they always do.
Due to all of that, I won't be buying one.

Can the Wii U do HD over component? I know component itself can, but I've heard mixed things, like that the component output worked just like wii mode in just SD res.

Well, I ended up getting one. Observations so far:
Nintendo Land was a lot of fun at New Years party with 5 people playing.
Just Dance 4 a lot of fun but it crashed twice.
NO DLC SUPPORT YET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Rented Mario. Really enjoying it. Also like to be able to play on the new controller if the wife is watching Netflix on the PS3.
Big issue I see is the MiiVerse. It basically shows everyone's Miis, whether you are playing online or not and you can type or write out messages that everyone can see. Seems like a cool idea, until you have a bunch of morons drawing inappropriate pictures. They don't stay on the screen very long so even if there is a way to report them I think it would be difficult to find their Mii again in order to do so.

If you have the money go for it. It's obviously new and there aren't many games out yet, but I got one and I've had a ton of fun with it already. I have really high hopes for the future of Wii U.

Unless you REALLY love Nintendo IP (Mario, Zelda, etc.) and buy all those games immediately upon release, it's not worth it IMHO.

I did get one, and we are having a good time with it. Its a bonus since I never owned a Wii so all those games are new to me too. However I am getting more pissed every day that there is still NO DLC SUPPORT YET.
Apparently it was promised to arrive in December and didn't.

Will DLC run on external drives? Because the 8GB U only has 3GB free space...Over USB 2.0 it may make for slow load times even if it does support it. Anyone know?
And speaking of which, did they fix that thing that it took a good 25 seconds to do something as simple as getting to the settings menu?

Games can. There was a warning when I purchased Just Dance 4 that I would need an external drive if I didn't have enough free space. Who knows about DLC since THERE IS NONE.
Don't think it takes 25 seconds, but yes it feels like it takes forever to load ANYTHING, including settings.

Turned it off while trying (and failing) to download an update...
Should had cut off the network instead.

Should be covered by Nintendos warranty then, or maybe even the stores if it hasn't been long.

Yeah, I already shipped it out. They are going to fix it and reset the warranty free of charge. Just sucks to be without it.

Maybe they'll have DLC up by the time you get it back.

My little bro and sis got one for christmas. I tell you, 3 or more players in mario U is an absolute blast. We played it practically from dawn to dusk for 4 days straight. Unfortunately that's how long it took for us to beat it, so I don't know how much more play it'll get in the future. Getting a couple of people playing the platforming part of the game and one person placing blocks and stunning enemies is a riot though. Whoever is placing blocks is guaranteed to get a lot of crap from the other players when they fail to save them from a fall or something.
Nintendoland is a lot of fun too, but all of its games are so simplistic that I wonder if they'll hold anyone's interest in the long run. Zombie U was the weakest game they got, but was still pretty fun overall. The Wii U is capable of some quite nice graphics compared to other current gen consoles.
