Visiontek 450w Juice Box $25.99 out the door @ the 'EGG

I just bit on one of these.

Right now I'm toying around with 7970 Lightnings and am afraid to overclock them on my PC Power and Cooling 750. I didn't want to buy a new high quality high power unit cause I'm typically a Single gpu user and my current 750 watter is usually overkill (and it is a bullet proof psu) plus I don't want to bother with taking it out since I take hours with my cable management.

Hopefully this thing turns out to be a nifty thing to keep around and piggy back onto different rigs that I have kicking around. I'm alwyas popping crazy card configurations into my boxes and often can't because this or that psu doesn't have the nut for certain cards I own.

Be aware this looks very similar to that. The ePower unit has exactly the same input/output panel as the Visiontek. HardOCP gave the ePower a failure rating.

It is safe to say that the VisionTek is a rebranded ePower unit, therefore you should avoid it.

Yea, [H] gave that thing an abysmal rating. It's the same power supply, being sold under the Visiontek name. I wouldn't trust my Lightnings with it :/

7970 Crossfire 648W from the wall

Why wouldn't a PCP&C 750W (those were made by Seasonic, right?) power a pair of these overclocked?

What CPU are you using? They are using a Core i7-3960X with stock 130W TDP with a full 1.4GHz overclock. Combine that with overclocked cards (first paragraph below chart) for high power draw.

Also, those charts look odd with power draw for two stock 7970 in Crossfire at 539W to draw less power than a single MSI Lightning 7970 at 571W.

Additionally, those numbers are "from the wall." Assuming 80% efficiency, even the 939W number ends up at 751.2W from the PSU.

Who cares about these ratings? Ratings involve pushing these PSUs to the limit. But if you just need SOME extra power, these will do very nicely. And for $26 I jumped on this without even thinking. I am sure I will not regret my decision, because reviews on newegg are generally positive with little failures.

I jumped as well (shoprunner free shipping + FW (21cents)). I find a home for it in some less than stellar rig.

Yeah, The reviews on New Egg are positive and usually they are full of whinny bitches. With that said, I'm probably only going to only use one of the eight pin connectors just to take some of the burden off my psu.

I can just imagine some friend with a oem box with a decent CPU but no PSU power left for a video card. They make them, this is a possible solution.

I just wanted to post a follow up. I got my PSU. I'm very impressed with it. It comes with very nice cables. The cables alone are worth the $20 I paid for the whole thing. I have it hooked up to 1of the 8 pin connectors on each card. Before hooking the PSU up I tried doing a little overclocking and couldn't get stable a@ 1200mhz which each individual card was capable of alone easily. I could do 1100/1600 but couldn't do 1200. After installing the juice box 1200 mhz is just as easy as a single card setup on the exact same voltages. This thing was definately worth the price so far!!! $25 saved me $200 which would have been wasted since I will go back to single gpu when there is a faster card.

I can totally see myself using this in my other builds all the time.

My Corsair AX750 handled my 7970's at 1.25v 1125/1625 and 2600k @ 4.8 fine. I was pulling 650-675 watts from the wall. Otherwise in desktop use its around 130ish iirc

look up reviews for overclocked Lightnings and you'll see what I'm talking about.
