what car do you recommend if I had this criteria?

- reputation of stability and overall solidness

I'm a male in his 20s. I drive a paid off Honda Accord that I have to pass down to family. Honda has been very solid with zero repairs needed after driving tons of miles on it including a cross country trip.

Its your call. But if you are happy with the Accord, then you wouldn't go wrong with another one.

Its a great time to be shopping for a new car. While I'm partial to Honda, I might also look over some of the new offerings from KIA or Hyundai ...

I believe that he's possibly suggesting to spend less than that amount of money on a Kia or Hyundai. Which would leave the OP with what is still a very nice car with a decent amount of money left over.

I agree premium shouldn't be a deal breaker, depreciation is the greatest cost of ownership
Time to get off the couch and head to some dealers and see what you actually are interested in

Why not keep your Accord but spend like $10k for a car for the family? Keep a known great car, make somebody very happy, save a Jokerpile of money.

But if you're determined to buy new, it'd be hard to do much better than the Accord with those reqs.

The new 2013 Honda Accord V6. $33k fully loaded and have so much stuff that most luxury cars can't touch at this price point. Not to mention 34mpg with a 278hp V6. Rock solid reputation

I thought Honda's V6's were supposed to take premium? I know the Acuras do, and AFAIK it's the same engine with a different plastic cover (Honda fanatics, correct me if I'm wrong).

Having a 30k+ budget for a car and having 87 octane as a requirement seems silly to me. Especially with the price of gas...I mean, when it was $1 a gallon, premium was like 1.20. At $3 a gallon, premium is like....$3.25. The difference in cost between premium and regular doesn't really seem to inflate in correlation with the 'base' cost.

If you figure 15000 miles a year and 25 miles per gallon, you get 600 gallons for said year...figuring a generous 30 cent premium on...well, premium...180 bucks a year.

Around one third of one month's car payment, at best (figuring a 30k+ 60mo loan). If you're splitting hairs over that, you should buy a cheaper car.

All model accords whether it be 4cylinder or 6, takes regular unleaded.

The 2013 Accord is pretty awesome.
Big step up for that model for Honda.
I have seen both Coupe and Sedan and they are both awesome looking, and apparently just as good to drive.

AFAIK, it's mostly engine management tweaks between Honda and Acura engines. I know that the Honda versions only "recommend" premium fuel. Basically, if you want to get rated power, you do have to use premium, but the engine management computer has sufficient range of adjustment to allow the continued use of regular fuel without damage. Acuras may have a different ECU calibration that doesn't allow the use of regular gasoline though.
