Steam now installs games to other drives!
I haven't seen this being mentioned. I bought farcry 3 and I got this:
I guess it was in the beta version and finally made it to release.

Is it possible to move individual games after they are installed?

You could probably just copy the folders out of the Steam dir, then select remove game, then go and re-install the game, point it to a new drive, then copy the files you took out earlier to the new Steam directory and it should pick them up, if there's no other way.

This is great. Now I can choose which games are SSD worthy and fill my HDDs with the rarely played stuff.

Not necessary it seems. Basically, copy the games from under SteamApps\common to where ever you want. Uninstall the game and reinstall pointing to the new location. The installer will do a discovery from the new location and away you go.

About freaking time. Spent my last few Xmas $$$ on a new SSD. Hopefully Origin and Gamespy will figure out this high tech solution. hehe

but with steam mover you just point to current install locale, new locale and "move". then undo when done. no uninstalling, reinstalling etc
really, it's a good app

I stumbled upon this by accident. Glad to see they finally made the change.

Wow, that's such a great change. Only something we've had the option to do since the 80's with stuff we've installed. I really can't believe it's taken this long and we've been using 3rd party programs to make STEAM suck less.

I have been installing steam to other drives for years by installing the steam client itself on another drive....

Now, Origin needs to implement this.

Origin's had it for a while now. It's just not part of the game install process but rather on... Settings > General tab or something.

Not the same thing we are talking about here. What we are talking about is, you install Steam on to you D drive and then you can choose to install xxxx game onto the C drive from Steam. Before you could only install games on the drive Steam was installed on (if you didn't use a 3rd party program).

I wanted to report back that I found a limitation with THQ games. They do not appear to give the option to install to another drive. I was going to move the Humble Bundle pack to my SSD, but was hit with the limitation.

Yeah, I think this will happen with a lot of games still on your list (not just THQ). I read somewhere that only the games which had an update message which read "Steam must update this game's files to a new format", are the ones that you can install to another hard drive within Steam.

I noticed last night that in settings I was allowed to put in a new library folder on my other hard drive, which I did, and tested it with Crysis 2. Installed there and played just fine.

Gosh I did this years ago and it was easy. If Steam is on C You go into the registry and right click Steam and click "Export". That sends a key wherever you pick. I've kept my Steam on E Drive for years now. Whenever I reformat C I just go to my Steam folder on E and click the same Install key I made years ago. Its like a 2 second thingy..
