That was almost definitely a price mistake.

Not really. The other day, Dell Australia had it on "sale" for $559. People were getting Dell US to pricematch as well as take advantage of the gift card offer to get them for under $500. Odds are someone linked Amazon the Dell Australia deal to price match, and some Amazon manager wasn't paying attention and just saw "Dell", and authorized the price drop since "Dell" is a US vendor/competitor.
They were likely sold out in a hurry, as this was listed on Slickdeals rather quickly.

Not necessarily - it's gone on sale on Dell's Australia site a few times from the normal $799 to $559.

Dell Australia has shown that price off and on for at least a month, actually.
But selling it for $559 in Australia and $559 in the US are two entirely different things. It's probably right that Amazon got tricked into a price match. I assume we won't be seeing that again.

sold out for now
Also, I would buy this before a catleap any day of the weak, i've had friends with numerous issues with dead pixels, backlight bleed, and shoddy build quality (especially the stand).

Hope I end up getting this. If so, 1440p here I come (and a very big thanks to the OP). I was never into the idea of ordering Korean based panels. Ordering from Amazon with prime benefits + Dell warranty and exchange policy = worth it to me!

27" 25xx for work, 42" for play, different purposes.

Except the Dell has terrible antiglare. What's the point of high res if the image isn't clear?

Not to derail, but I'm assuming this rationale would be less relevant on the option for a 32" TV, since the pixels density would be that much higher than a 42". In other words the 32" TV would probably win the trade against a 27" monitor...

The 2713 doesn't have a thick antiglare like the 2711 did, it has a thin film that isn't noticeable under any circumstance. Matte coating is good for business environments, but to be clear : the 2713 does not have a matte coating as the 2711 did, it is a light film that is nowhere near as harsh; this is one of the main criticisms that were fixed. Comparing the 2713 to a junk korean panel is laughable at best. I have seen friends with those pieces of junk, the ones that work at least. I know of another person who had 2 of them die on him. No thank you, i'll pass on a junk korean panel.

I was interested when I read about the mild antiglare... but then I googled and found that this Dell is 6 bit IPS. No thanks, the Korean ones are true 8 bit.
Edit: But it's color calibrated? Why would they go to the effort of color calibrating but not spend the money to make it true 8 bit?
Edit: Oh it says here it's 8 bit! http://www.cnet.com.au/dell-ultrasha...-339341226.htm
