The Worlds most powerful people
http://www.nbcnews.com/business/worl...ople-1C7423106
I love the intro! Please discuss.
Here is the list of the top 10:
1. Barack Obama
President, United States of America
Age: 51
The decisive winner of the 2012 U.S. presidential election on all counts: Obama took the popular vote, the electoral college and 7 out of 7 toss-up states. Now he gets 4 more years to push his agenda past weakened congressional Republicans. Still, he faces major challenges, including an unresolved budget crisis, stubbornly high unemployment and renewed unrest in the Middle East. But Obama remains the commander in chief of the world’s greatest military and head of the sole economic and cultural superpower— literally the leader of the free world.

In truth, regardless of who's president, he should always been at the top of the list barring some really exceptional circumstances.

How can the president be the most powerful person in the world when he's completely dependent on rich people for campaign financing and favorable media coverage to even get elected? Wouldn't the real "most powerful person in the world" be someone from the wealthy ruling class with pockets deep enough to finance political campaigns and buy up control of the media that determines the results of presidential elections?

Any of the three G's can make you a powerful person....God, Guns, and Gold. Guess what that Obama has in spades...

This misses the point. The only reason Obama has access to anything at all is because someone else decided that he could have access. Elections are decided by a combination of money and media, both of which are controlled by rich people. Therefore, it was rich people who decided it was OK to allow Obama to win the White House and to have access to guns and gold. It's a classic master/servant arrangement, with the office of the president assuming the role of servant.
The real most powerful person in the world is more than likely the leader of a relatively small group of super wealthy international oligarchs who hide their influence on world affairs from the huddled, unwashed masses.

Any such list that doesn't have the US POTUS at the top of the list -- no matter who it is -- is full of crap.
Obama is the most powerful man in the world by any measure. Perhaps in his second term we'll see him actually do something useful, unlike in his first term.

I said something useful. He got things done, but I would not term them useful. That's a matter of opinion of course.

Gotta really love the GOP reasoning on this thread. As the GOP dedicated four years to obstruct any part of the Obama agenda in 2008. Dedicated to the proposition that the GOP could make Obama into a one term President.
Say all you GOP fan clubbers, how well did that work out for the GOP in the election of 11/2012?
As now the GOP is willing to take America over the fiscal cliff to protect tax cuts for only the very rich.

At least, this is the narrative you've been brainwashed to believe is true.
You mistake political theater and opportunistic grandstanding as something meaningful when its real purpose is to get half of the American people to fight and argue with the other half of the American people over wedge issues and other useless shit. It's all about divide and conquer. This stuff has been going on forever.
In reality, the GOP is only dedicated to sharing power with the Democrats as part of the American political duopoly, and to do this, they put on a charade and pretend to obstruct and fight with the Democrats so lemmings like yourself won't get wise to the shakedown taking place right under your nose.
That's the long and short of it. You've been had, just like most Americans.

I'd argue Assad is up there. I mean, who else has killed so many people lately? Syria has the world's attention, WMDs and all.
