Hi guys i am making a portable desktop in a briefcase and i have a 12v monitor rated at 12v DC and 1500 mA. Is it ok to run it off a molex to the power supply? I have an OCZ 600W Mod Xtream pro power supply and it says its 12v is rated at 5A output. Theres not much else running in the case im using the onboard video in a i5 3570 and a antec kuhler 650 water cooler and 2 120mm fans on a asrock mitx board so i dont think im even comming close to the powersupply capacity and nothings overclocked. Any info is appreciated.
1.5A x 12V = 18 Watts. That's not very much, it's even less than that CPU would pull. Your whole system is probably pulling 1/3, maybe 1/2 max of the 600W available.
In my admittedly non-expert opinion it shouldn't be a problem.
Yup, should work fine. I've got three 12v monitors and I've considered doing that. Just need to get around to doing it (and finding barrel connectors, don't want to cannibalize the AC adapter).
