Default Data "sharing" via social media?

I was wondering if there are any projects out there that "share" digital information using social media? For example, let's take twitter:

Max users you can follow: 1000
Max posts per user: 1000
Max symbols per message: 140
Symbol size: 8-bit? (couldn't find a good answer to character set support, but let's assume 256 chars supported)

So in a single day, you could gather: 8*140*1000*1000 bits of data, or:

140MB

Interesting....
