Fact. The sticker price on these things is rarely paid by those who buy them in any reasonable quantity. Large companies pay less for commodity items because of volume and then pay far more a "solution" than the sum of it's parts.

Was it the bus that didn't fit or the woman didn't fit?

When I was a volunteer firefighter we had to do this exact same thing to extract a woman who had fallen and couldn't get up. It wasn't a 2 story building (there aren't many where I live yet) but we had to break out the tarp and roll her onto it and 6 of us carried her out that way. We loaded her up into the ambulance and there wasn't room for the paramedics to work her except from the front cab. Good thing it was non-life threatening because the closest hospital is about 20 mins away.

That is just unfair. You can't expect that bridge to handle THAT load.

Made me remember my own big lady story, which also happened in Miami too.

A sous chef I worked with back when I was a teen used to be a hospital orderly, he recounted once in his heavy Alabama drawl how one night he and his coworkers got a frantic call from an ambulance crew telling them they were inbound with a "rough one."

Ambulance shows up, and inside is a combative, hysterical 450lb+ black girl bleeding all over the place. She had gotten frisky and decided to have sex with a 40w shop light bulb, which obliviously shattered under the duress of her, err, lovin. They didn't have a gurney burly enough to hold her, so they had to jury rig something and it ended up taking 5 grown men to sort her out. She blamed them for her pain and was throwing punches, later pissed all over herself and others in protest for them "not being gentle."

He quit the next day.

Reminds me of the last time I was in the emergency room. This was in the late 90s and I was out surfing early one morning with a friend of mine on 4th of July weekend. I got hit in the mouth by my surfboard and it split my lip wide open. I saw stars from that hit and when my friend paddled over he said I needed to go to the hospital. He took my board and I drove myself to the emergency room.

Anyway, as I was waiting for the plastic surgeon to finish the job he was working on I overheard a woman whining and arguing with the nurses and doctors nearby. She was really combative and complaining about everything. Just being a miserable cunt really. I found out later that someone had thrown a brick through her window and she had glass in one of her eyes. Still, I don't care what happened to you, these people are trying to help you and you are going out of your way to make them miserable.

I had to wait about an hour and a half to get my lip sewed up, all I asked for was a blanket because I was freezing (still wearing my wetsuit) and a glass of water with a straw because I was thirsty. Still have a very very faint scar on my lower lip from that but it is almost impossible to see.
